The Hong Kong airline said it had struck a deal with European aircraft maker Airbus to buy 15 A330-300s and a separate agreement with US-based Boeing for 10 777-300ERs. The deal also included leasing two more Airbus A350-900s from International Lease Finance Corp., Cathay said, adding that all the models would be delivered before the end of 2015

Still no 748 or 380 for CX - I'd have hoped the 748 would eventually make it's way into the fleet allowing switching to freighter fleet when finished with pax duty.

Surprised CX isn't opting for the 388. Perhaps it was considering maintenance, training etc.

It's almost like CX will be keeping a very simple fleet with little options but also minimising some risks and costs. Though, this statement doesn't explain the choice of the A359.

I was under the impression CX was interested in the A380-1000 or other newer variants not yet in production, so I’m not surprised they didn’t go for the 388. Maybe in the future.

It is an addition to their existing A359 order, so one would think they decided they needed 2 more.

On a side note, the article mentioned Cathay made a $14 billion dollar profit. Wow!

Would this be HKD, even so that's impressive by global airline standards, when making any profit is an achievement.

Yes of course HKG !!!!!

Fortune obviously favours the brave.

CX have some simple business principles and don't complain of additional competition, just get on and deal with the shifted paradigms.
