Hi all,

I am currently doing some research into some custom carry on bags for my company. Originally we were just looking at getting some bag tags made up for all our staff who travel to make it easier to identify checked luggage as someone would always want to go to the toilet, grab a smoke or we would need a couple of people to round up rental cars leaving the rest of us to find everyones bags. Anyway we are now thinking of getting some bags made up for carry on that will fit a laptop/tablet a change of clothes, some headphones and whatever else you would normally take with you. Roller backpacks seems to be the consensus at the moment in the office at them moment. Does anyone have experience in getting custom luggage made up? I am thinking we will probably end up getting these made in china/taiwan/vietnam or similar.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,

Not too sure why you would go to the added expense of Custom made - suggest you look to Samsonite, they always have good gear, just make sure you go for upright not the squat sideways ones, as they don't roll down the aisle at all. Just make sure there is a good & large compartment for clothing and enough of a front pocket for PC to slip in - why they continue with the "mobile office" is beyond me, think we are well past the need for that, but something that held cables and headphones, that would be a winner!

Also make sure you get a light version - although it is extremely rare, sometimes over-zealous checkins can weigh your carryon & a heavy bag to start can cause issues.

Just get everyone in your company pink luggage - you'll find it easily and no one will steal it :p

Most wheeled backpags weight quite a bit. I would call a company like Caribee and see if they offer that service - you never know..

I dont know if they have a rollerbag but my HO issues Ogio backpacks (Metro i think) that has been awesome in function and durability. Hubby stole mine from a project and he uses it daily and taken it overseas a couple of times. When I received a 2nd one, he stole that for "just in case" but its been 2yrs and very little wear on his first backpack.

Our company has them custom embroidered with company and project logos/wording and this is done after purchase so it seems easy to do.

JUst be aware that Samsonite don't extend the guarantee to cover actually damage by an airline! So, I guess the rest don't either.

Unfortunately, they are all a commodity now, so if it breaks, we replace - I have had my current Samsonite roller for about 7 years with almost weekly throws into the luggage compartment and its still going strong, might need a replacement soon though, starting to look a bit old.

Also make sure that you get one with a handle that extends well out. Nothing worse than clipping your heels on your bag as you walk.

I will likely be getting 20-50 of these made up and they will almost be a consumable that will be replaced every year or so. The trolley thing is probably not so important. I like the idea of samsonite etc. but I am likely going to go to a Chinese company to make me some to my specifications. I guess now I just need to work out what those specifications will be. Must be lightweight, fit a 15.4" laptop, have a separate pocket for paperwork and space for cables etc. Be able to fit a pair of dress shoes and a change of clothes also. Anything else you think I should consider?

I have personally had this Targus Australia | TCG650 – 16 Inch CityGear Backpack for quite a few years now (would be approaching 10 years I would think!) and it is still strong. Something similar would be ideal I would think. Maybe I could get it debadged and redone with my company branding?
