Current J layout CX MEL-HKG

I'm doing MEL-HKG-Newark on CX in J in April, with a 3 year old. I know there were issues with line of sight to kids previously in the J configuration but had heard the cabin had since changed. Someone told me that in 2016 they still had trouble communicating with the kids.
The flights are CX134 A330-300 to HKG
and CX890 777-300ER to Newark

No change to the cabin. Same herringbone layout as has been for the last several years. The mix of premium economy and economy has changed, but that was back in late 2014. (The 'coffin' seats disappeared many years ago on A30s and 77Ws)

You may be best going for aisle and window rather than the two centre seats - you or toddler can keep line of sight that way.

The centre "pair" are a bit hard to see over the divide.

A350 and 777 also being introduced by CX to MEL route so you might be lucky enough to snare that.

Advice plse CX831 currently an A330 (June 17) shown HKG - SYD. Which single, quiet and private seat would you suggest? Ausbt suggests 19A, but a comment says footwell is better in row 20(?)

16 or 17K, even 18K. The central galley is not used on AU flights and that area is very quiet and private. The footwell on CX is non-restrictive in any seat, you might have a marginal increase at the bulkhead rows but nothing significant (not like SQ's diamond seats where there's a fair difference). There wouldn't be any advantage of row 20 over 19. The other thing is that depending on loads, the second mini cabin may be closed for crew rest. If that happens you'll get moved to the front cabin. Better to secure a good seat in the forward cabin from the outset.

The other trick... some pax have mentioned they don't 'fit' in the CX seats comfortably (shoulders or knees hard up against the outer shell). This may be due to the angle of the seat and how you prefer to sit. Plonk yourself in your favourite chair at home to watch tv... if you are angled slightly to the left, choose an 'A' seat on CX. If you angle slightly to the right, choose a 'K' seat. You just kind of 'fit' better then.

Thanks MEL_T. Those seats are at the back of the bigger fwd J cabin. You wouldn't go for the smaller J cabin in 19, 20, 21? And, I will check out my lounging technique.

for a few reasons I avoid the second cabin (unless no other choice). PEY is just behind (with bassinet positions), cabin might be closed if loadings are low, and there's a lot of foot traffic during boarding (all of PEY and Y pass through the cabin).

If the flight is looking full, 19A/K would be a good choice, but your view is the bulkhead, and more bulkhead.

Ausbt and seatguru give the 'theory' behind the best seats, but that doesn't always translate or take account of reality (like the second galley not being used).

Right side probably gets marginally more traffic from crew going to/from the galley at the front. If you are in 16, 17, 18 most pax use the forward WCs, the WC just behind the galley rarely gets used by front cabin pax. Those seats are very quiet.

Just wondering how you went with your flights rechoboam? Asking as I am taking the family away soon in CX Business, and its with my SO, a 5yo an 3yo. At the moment we have the whole row booked 4 across (A,D,G,K) but was wondering if its better doing A,D A,D?
