Current F Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

Photos back the front, but for mains the duck confit and barramundi were as per previous Winter menu photos and both very good. No photos of entree - but the spinach bowl and gua bao were great too. Loving the manchego on the cheese plate for afters. No decanter today, but happy with The Fowles ‘The Rule’ Shiraz 2015. Had an issue with our ride to T1, arrived a little later then planned, and just missed out on spa appointments. Nestor was on the door - which is always a good start to Flounging.

Kermatu - missed you by a day.

Your barramundi looks great.
Mine was extremely tasty, but the piece of fish was thin, and a bit over cooked. Notwithstanding this, one of the nicest dishes I’ve had in the lounges:

Had the barramundi too, just to see if the fish was better. It was, but I guess a mistake to have the same dish so soon. Probably should have gone back to an old favourite - the mushroom risotto.

I do like their risotto and it's seemingly becoming one of the staples, seasonally at least. And this is from someone who has never had the salt and pepper squid!

Yep. Market inspiration in both Sydney and Melbourne my last 3 or 4 visits.

I drank the S&P squid cool aid first couple of visits years back. Only had it once since and regretted it. Still seems extremely popular and most people say it’s great.

Even though I have been really critical or unimpressed with a lot of travel experiences lately, the F lounges are terrific all round. We are pretty lucky to have menus that change every three months, and a large variety of options to choose from each time.

Have to agree with the others the confit duck is wonderful. Perfect cabbage / pea ratio and melting in the mouth duck. I can't believe I've missed this one on previous visits.

We will be in Mel on Friday week. Presuming the Winter menu is still in play? It’s on the way to DPS and that J class meal is horrible.

Touch and go whether the winter menu will still be on I reckon. Know what you mean about the J food though, I'm heading to Bali this week (although via CGK) and after I saw the online food ordering options I thought, "Yep, duck in the F lounge beforehand... and maybe another one."

We learnt the last trip in November. All we had in the lounge was the pavlova thinking that the J meal would fill in some time. It was one of those awful beef sandwiches with the pickle - forget the name. We have around 3 hours connection between flights and I will have the full menu. Then sleep on the plane.

At least you can view the menu and pre-order for SYD-CGK - can't even do that for SYD-DPS.

Great - will have that to look forward to lol

Flying MEL-DPS in J the day before you! Will post pics of both F lounge and inflight menus on Thursday :)

Yesterday, it was still the winter menu. Had the safe choices of the hierloom tomatoes/bocconcini and the risotto from the market choices section.

I also asked for a cheese plate, but it didn't arrive with any fruit, so thought I'd order a fruit plate. The service had been OK, not great, up to that point (no offers to refill my water), but I was suddenly invisible. I waited 20 min, trying to get someone's attention, then eventually walked up to a waiter and asked to order.

Sydney or Melbourne?

Sydney or Melbourne?
Was about to ask the same. SYD has been horrible with service where at least once each of the last few visits I've had to get up and approach the wait person my self as no matter how I tried to get their attention it was impossible. Then the whole polite and courteous "yes sir of course I can take your order"...
Ok that's excellent but why exactly am I having to approach you to get this done?

That kind of response is very annoying. Glad I’m going through Melbourne then. Maybe.

Melbourne went through a bad period of poor service for some (I was usually OK) but seems to be better lately.

In SYD I always sit facing in to the serving area (usually lucky to snare a window seat in the corner) so I can catch a server's eye. Again I don't recall any fails like a 20 minute wait, but I have found once your last order is provided (cheese / dessert / coffee) or if I say no to a top-up they'll pretty much leave me alone.
