Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for domestic travel insurance? Columbus is not offering any, TID are double the price but I suspect this is because QF is quoting per person but only shows the one person price.

What risk are you wanting to insure in particular?

I recently looked for insurance against the cost of being forced to do hotel quarantine or being locked out of my own state, and there was no insurance available for government action like that. A couple of insurers are now prepared to cover cancellation costs if you or a travel companion can't travel due to having covid or becoming a close contact before the travel date (sorry, can't remember which ones as that wasn't the cover I was looking for).

Thanks, Anna.

Car rental excess cover is a mandatory, not sure what else can be covered re COVID.

I took an annual multi-trip policy through Australia Post. Doesn't include any COVID cover. However, the cost was quite reasonable; in fact, their annual multi-trip policy was cheaper than a single-trip policy for a trip of around ten days. Cost me $114 for a couple with a maximum trip length of 15 days (there are options for longer trips).

For rental car excess I also have my NAB signature card which covers excess up to $5,000 provided the car is paid for on the card. The Aust Post policy also covers rental vehicle excess but only up to $3,000 (although you can increase this but doing so significantly increases the cost).

Note that many rental vehicle excess insurance policies do NOT cover tyres, windscreen, etc. which on some modern cars could be substantial.

NIB. Annual multi-trip Worldwide (includes domestic more than 200km from home) for 2 people for $700. Some Covid cover, $20K cancellation and $5K rental car.

Hi! Is the 45 days maximum days cover? Can one opt for more days?

Anyone exploring the options for the over 65s?
Or is that group not wandering

Fred

NIB doesn't seem to have any issue until you turn 70 when I suspect it will cost more due to a perceived increase in health risk and the list of automatically covered existing medical conditions might decrease...

I ended up comparing QF, nib, Covermore, TID and RACQ. RACQ came out best for price and inclusions and level of cover.
I checked RACQ for a couple for a domestic annual multi trip and it was $1058 (30 days, $250 excess)!!! This included a 20% RACQ member discount 😳.
Our Australia Post policy was $110 (15 days, $50 excess)

Inclusions varied between policies but Australia Post had all the coverage we required for domestic trips.
