Strange experience last night - flying Mel-SYD just after take off the CSM came up to row 4 and welcomed me in 4E and the pax in 4D by name without a copy of the manifest in her hand.

Never had it before - wondering if 4D was a CL and I was an added extra.

Noticed as well that 4F must have been a no status as she didn't even know where the tray table was...

I really didn't enjoy the centre seat experience...

Mate they just memorise the names from the manifest, saw the CSM on J flight doing it.

It could be that they just memorise the names and perform the greeting.

Seriously though 4E? Row 4 is not that important to me. I would not sacrifice my comfort for any middle seat.

I know that - it is one step up from coming up to you looking at the manifest and reading out your name.

I switched from a 3:30 to a 4pm flight and the furthest forward aisle or window was row 12...

Agree, but I feel as its still only pretend, I dont mind them reading from the manifest.

Sorry I'd be in row 12 Iam with John, wouldnt give up my comfort for a few rows.

I think I would make the same decision in future - but more likely I will plan my meetings better and not change flights at late notice...

I saw the same thing happen on my MEL-BNE flight last night with row 4.I was in 9F so had no idea what was said.
And I have taken 4B when offered as the nearest aisle or window seat with my lack of status was row 21.

For some reason, row 12 sticks out as being a no go for me on the 738.

Something about it being uncomfortable due to the location near the exit row.

I'd take 4B on a short flight.

The domestic greeting is an odd event. I haven't seen it very often and on the couple of times I have my assumption was that it was for CL's.

I would take 29CD over 4E.

Yes I know it is nice to be able to switch flights such as your situation but I have refused earlier flights if I have not liked the seats available. Later flights are a different story and that has not happened very often.

I seem to have an uncanny ability to cause the earlier flight I switch to, to be delayed and depart around the same time or later than my original flight.

and the middle seat is a no go for me.

And here I was thinking I was alone. At least you only cause earlier flights to be delayed. :p

Actually hoping for a lengthy delay today at SYD T1. ;)

I loathe 737s, however had to take 3 of them in the last month. Each time, in 4C/D the CSM greeted us by name, offered wine from J (these were not Cityflyer flights, and prior to 4PM). From those experiences I believe they're trialling some genuine enhancements.

What was funny was I had a vile, demanding pax next to me in 4B MEL-BNE. She asked for wine and the FA said it was $5, but gave it to her for free. When the CSM offered me a glass of wine, which I declined as I didn't feel like drinking, she quickly said "Oh, I'll have one!" She then kept demanding refills. Charming...

Not had the greeting either yet, but then I’m usually on QFLink, Q400/Q300’s…

Looking forward to some upcoming school holiday period flights on a 738 though, should increase likelihood of upgrade and/or greeting, but of course not expecting anything out of the ordinary. :)

Ditto. I got bumped to an earlier flight SYD-BNE on my way home from the US last month (I agreed to the bump; had been in 4D for ~1hr later). At luggage checkin at BNE, I was given 6B or 8B similar. I asked if an aisle was available, and ended in in 16C. Really grateful for that with the turbulence to BNE that day as I came very close to ignoring the seat belt sign and bolting to the loo.
Oh, and no WP CSM greeting on a SYD-BNE flight when the crew spends the first 20-30 mins seated due to turbulence! Could barely get the FA to remember to give me the Gnger ale I needed in lieu of brekky. I think I had to ask three times.
(In the context of the turbulence & service delays, definitely a first world problem, but gosh I needed some ginger).

I got halfway there, I received a simple greeting by name when breakfast was delivered in Row 25 of a 738 the other today.

I had given up my exit row allocation to sit with a Bronze colleague, who received no such greeting. He got a "here you go" instead!

Perhaps part stubborness, part stupidity.

Coming back from New Zealand this morning and got out of T1 quickly and have an 11:05 flight back to BNE. I asked if I can go on earlier flight at 9:05 and she processed the change and said only middle seat available as it is a 737. I said no thanks. Went to put me back on my original flight and 23D was gone. Gone in <1 minute?

Anyway in 23J now with 2 hours to kill. Went from seq #32 to seq #137.

Should I have kept middle seat and gone back to BNE 2 hours earlier? I think it would have been a very uncomfortable flight for me and for those sitting next to me.

Just as well I did not keep the middle seat and gone back 2 hours earlier. My 23J morphed into 1E at the gate. :)
