Cruising choices with an active Pandemic

Hope that is sarcasm.

That's why the Japanese approach to confining passengers to the Pacific Princess turned out to be an unmitigated disaster.

Naturally

Don't think that's been proven as people weren't tested before and after quarantine as they didn't have the testing capabaility.

The virus had been spreading on the ship for 7-8 days with Patient 0 onboard, then off, before the quarantine was implemented. Even then it seems only about 20% of passengers had it.

Compare that to the Ruby Princess which in its 6 days Sydney-Sydney (they were refused port in NZ) we now have over 25% of the Australian passengers infected (and assuming a similar number of those who flew home overseas)

.....

So that is 277 cruise ships that have been able to dock and had no **Covid pax or crew on board.
A ferry ship has been converted to a hospital in Liguria,Italy.

**Known or tested or publicised

Many not all of them would be in the Northern Hemisphere in the coming weeks. That's what their itineraries would have been so I'm not sure why they'd be in the vicinity of Australian ports from which they've been prohibited from entering and where there are no cruises planned until further notice.

Yes, and all those plans have been cancelled. So it makes sense to stay where you are until the air clears, not go somewhere where there's uncertainty and which you may be prohibited from by the time you get there.

When there are new plans that is when you apply them. Not drift off hoping things will work out, just because of a plan that's already been cancelled. I can assure you the destination port will not accept you just because you had a plan long ago, with no other justification.

Yes of course. Its about the money. Just surprises me that being in Australian waters when they weren't meant to have been here is likewise allowable.

It's not about the money. It's about being in safe harbour, while new plans are sorted out. And there is no reason they should leave when there is a medical crisis that advocates staying at your place instead of spreading things further.

Seems the Port Authorities and Police don't concur they have a right to say here. They have repatriated sick crew members already. If the cruiselines agreed to fly their crew out then I'm sure that would be done.

The port authorities haven't kicked any ships out or made announcements on the matter.

The only thing has come from the police and some Premiers which have had other questions raised about some actions in the first, and are in part politicking in the latter.

Just listening now. Military will be sent in and go onboard - I think to test 9000 crew and passengers. Those requiring medical attention will receive it and then the ships will be required to move out. Crew will be on ships or flown home to home countries. NSW Commissioner said it is all in process now.

Including Pacific Explorer, which is home ported in Sydney year round. Absolute stupidity to kick these out. They just have no idea.

I suspect that one may get a reprieve which is appropriate. Which in reality is what my earlier posts have explained. Ships that arent normally in Australia and would move to different locations from now on, need to do that once medically cleared.

We currently have a ship based at Port Adelaide. I can see it out to sea right now. It comes and goes to berth. It is owned by an SA company that newly started this season. Awful timing for them.

Not good for Celebrity. On cruise critic someone in hotel isolation in Sydney has tested positive today having just flown home from a Celebrity US cruise. There’s a real sh#t storm about to happen because despite having passengers showing symptoms onboard they made a statement to local authorities that no suspicious symptoms were onboard and so they were allowed to disembark.

Had a friend tell me one of his relatives from overseas was on one of the ships arriving in Sydney where passengers were just allowed off and fly home. The relative told him they had received some emails from "some Australian Government address" telling them they might be infected but they just deleted the email thinking it was spam because the cruise line told them all was ok

Yes there are are few companies doing the wrong thing. So Celebrity and Princess should be avoided.

Our experience from friends and family is that some companies do the right thing.Surprisingly they have been on lines with the same parent as Celebrity.

First friends on Silversea terminated the World Cruise in Sydney on the Silver Whisper. When their AA flights were cancelled Silversea got them bookings with QF.They also arranged a charter home for most of the crew and those from the Silver Spirit in Darwin. Both were left with ~ 100 crew and sailed back to europe.
The Captain of the Silver Shadow told the Authorities that 2 people on board when they arrived in Recife,Brazil that they had 2 pax on board with a fever.they were taken to hospital. One had Covid the other an abdominal problem leading to surgery and needed ICU post op.fortunately she tested negative.

Granddaughter on Grandeur of the Seas.Tested anyone with a fever,no positives then RCI arranged flights for passengers and after quarantine for the crew the crew was flown home.

We have yet to cruise Celebrity but were looking at one of their cruises for 2021 prior to COVID-19 blowing up. If this is true then they are very firmly off my list going forward.

Celebrity is a favourite of mine and we have a current but not happening, Med Cruise with them in July this year. I Agree, if what is being said (and people have posted what looks like verified confirmations that all was well onboard) then watch out. The Aussie cruiser who is today confirmed positive is very angry with them.

I trust the Medics from Armed Services to get the job done. NSW has shown themselves to have completely botched the whole Covid effort Australia wide. I dont know how Gladys dares to show her face.

Silverseas is a relatively new member to the RCL group and I don't believe has been fully integrated into its structure yet. That may well explain the difference.
