Hi,
Just wondering if any AFFers have done the research on insurance policies for the typical week-long South Pacific P & O cruises?

You'll need a Policy that covers the Pacific. Most but not all policies will cover Australian cruises. Ship doctors don't usually have Medicare access and so their charges aren't claimable in Australia and same with ship hospital treatments.

I found the following quote from the TID terms and conditions interesting.

"NOTE: This definition applies to you, your travelling party, a close relative or any other person."

This is in relation to exclusions of claims for medical reasons for pre-existing conditions. I find the "or any other person" a handy get-out-of-gaol free card for TID.

Pre existing medical conditions always apply to anyone in your "situation" where you would be thinking of making a claim.

What they mean by this clause is that if your best friend has cancer, and you cancel your trip because of it (booking after diagnosis), then you will not be covered as this condition is pre-existing.

If, however, your trip is cancelled due to your own broken leg, it does not matter that your friend had cancer prior to booking the trip. They are not trying to get out claims just because someone, somewhere in the world, had a pre-existing medical condition. I would imagine that clause is in every company's pds in some way.

Yes. The claim would need to relate to the pre existing condition in order for it to be refused.
