Cruise ships sail into Cairns

Looks like regional Queensland will benefit from cruise tourism, with one ship calling Cairns home:

Good to see. I was wondering what would happen with that flash new cruise ship terminal. Obviously Trinity inlet is quite deep there.

I seem to think many people want something different from the old favourites of Noumea, Vanuatu and Fiji and there are more ships venturing to PNG/Solomon's and the Great Barrier Reef must be a huge drawcard in itself. Imagine if the new Cairns casino development ever gets out of the starting blocks! That's of a size that is unusual for anywhere in Australia, let alone sleepy Cairns. Maybe I'd better have a look at some real estate there next week.

Cruising up through the Great Barrier Reef on QM2 was wonderful. The ships have a pilot onboard giving commentary. You cruise so slowly so as not to damage the reef. Fantastic seeing the 'pointy end' of Australia also.
