This page: Qatar carry-one baggage restrictions implies that they are allowed (not excluded, - I was looking for knitting needles). But if such are metal and have a sharp point, if you ask about them at check-in be prepared to put them into the checked baggage. If they are metal and sharp, and you don't ask at check-in, ask on board. Better to do that than have a 'scene' on board if a FA gets all over-protective.
I'd imagine if they're metal and sharp, security will confiscate them. And if you do get them on board probably best not to alert the FA. It might be construed as a weapon.
I reckon you'll have a yarn to tell us about how your travel progressed.
I have had no problems taking my knitting and knitting needles on several flights. I do use plastic needles. I have shown many AA FAs how to do some lacy patterns I have been knitting - especially on long haul flights LAX -NRT
