Crediting VA and QF flights to QR

I currently have VA Gold but no QF status. When I fly for work I try to choose to fly VA, but don't always get a choice between QF and VA, so can end up on QF.

It occurred to me that with QR I could credit either lots of flights to a single program.

What I am wondering is what the disadvantages are of taking this approach?

Avios is used by QR, BA IB IE & AY. Subject to t&c's the avios can be moved between these ffp's.
Earnings from VA flights to QR Qatar ffp : - check the fare class
Earnings from QF flights to QR Qatar ffp can be low or nil. Check the fare earning class (a letter) in the QR web site.
Earnings from QF flights to BA ffp can be a lot better
QF E class is low priced economy fare that does not earn to many ffp's, including BAEC & QRPC,

So for best redeemable avios credit to both QRPC (VA) and BAEC (QF).

Status cannot be moved.
If no QR avios earned will be no status earning (Qpoints). So may end up with partial towards status in QRPC & BAEC, but not enough for status (OWR OWS OWE).
For VA flights to QRPC check the status earnings

I presumed the OP was pondering “status” by crediting VA and QF to QR to consolidate a single status and use that for benefits flying either. A bit like what was possible with AB.

Alas, as you point out some Economy flights (fares) will not earn at all.

The QR calc suggests VA codes (Biz and whY) don’t earn any Qpoints nor Avios! Is that correct???

I honestly don’t know about VA but for QF you don’t earn on domestic only itineraries

I have a vague recollection there’s something similar for VA domestic flights?

But that rule for QF sounds quite contrary to normal OW norms. Curious then that the QR calculator happily took a simple QF one way SYD-MEL and showed the earn (posted earlier) and zip for VA.

Thanks all... To clarify the idea was to earn QR status that would then give me benefits when flying on either QF or VA.

The no earning on domestic-only QF flights would probably make this unworkable though. Oh well!

That would only work if you book domestic to international QF tickets and QR tickets with VA sectors marketed as QR.

No status earning flying VA crediting to QR if VA-marketed sector(s).
Same reasoning as crediting VA to Krisflyer, no elite miles if VA-marketed.

SQ wasn’t mentioned by the OP but what do you mean? SQ codes on SQ metal earn VFF SCs for eligible fare classes (as of course do VA codes on SQ metal).

Is it likely that Qatar Q Points/Status will be able to be earned on VA marketed and operated flights should the 25% stake in Virgin go ahead? From what I gather above that's not the case at the moment.
