I booked a JAL Domestic flight from Haneda to Hiroshima, with the "TOKUBIN7 TypeD Advanced Purchase Fare" fare type in First Class. Anyone know how this credits to QFF?

I assume it would be Discount Economy plus First Surcharge and thus Flexible Economy as opposed to Economy plus First Surcharge and therefore First, however I can't quite figure out how to map from the weird JAL fare names to "Economy" or "Discount Economy".

Apologies if this has been asked before, unfortunately the AFF Search doesn't let me search for "JAL" as part of my query since the word is too short

I can't answer your question with certainty, but I can say from first hand experience over the past few weeks that the JAL to QFF fare bucket mapping are currently all over the shop. Of five paid flights, only one has credited correctly:

HND-ITM V class, booked as part of international itinerary: "No matching rule element"
NGO-OKA Tokubin21 TypeE: "Economy"
OKA-MMY G class, booked via Japan Explorer Pass: "Zero earn class"
MMY-OKA G class, booked via Japan Explorer Pass: "Zero earn class"
OKA-HND G class, booked via Japan Explorer Pass: "No matching rule element"

I think my Tokubin21 crediting as full Economy should give hope that your Tokubin7 is treated as Economy Plus First Surcharge, with full F credits.. but you'll never truly know until it posts

I'm trying to muster the courage and energy to start drafting an email to QFF, but I just know the QFF rep is really going to struggle dealing with these four separate but very similar requests. Where do I begin..!

I shall update this thread next month then. Logically Tokubin7 is a more close-in booking/less restrictive ticket than Tokubin21, so I would expect that if 21 is Economy, then 7 should be too.

I did think about booking this via. Japan Explorer Pass, but the price difference between Japan Explorer Pass Economy and Tokubin21 First was just 10k JPY, and given the on departure upgrade cost is 10k JPY, it made sense to book the first ticket outright. Glad I didn't since I'm not particularly into chasing up credits with Qantas.

Do you know if on-departure upgrades (the 1/2/3/10/12k yen upgrades) credit as the upgraded class? (i.e. do they count as "Plus First Surcharge" / "Plus Premium Surcharge"?)

Interested to see how this all goes as I have HND-CTS on an explorer pass and then return on an explorer pass plus. If I have to chase up for credits it'd be nice to see some precedent, or know if it's even worth bothering with...

Does oneworld status override the seat selection limitation on Explorer Pass (non-plus)?

My flights end of December so I’m going to call soon and see. Can’t edit seats online even with qff number attached to booking so will update here after I ring.
Thanks. I'm booking a second trip to Japan next year so it would be good to know if I need to pay for Plus.

I wasn't able to select seats in advance as OWE, but on every single one of my GJEP flights my whole travelling party (5-6 people) was automatically seated in the exit row (with only one or two of us having OWE and the others having zero status) so there's some sort of priority given on seating I think.

You can use online check-in once it opens to pick seats - the trick is to go through the JAL International MMB.

A side note: NB QFFs get boarding group 3 on JAL, whereas those with no QFF number get boarding group 4. It doesn't matter if you have other elites on your booking, the boarding group on each BP is determined independently by that travellers status. Having said that we had no issue leading with the OWE/s in the group and pointing out that we were together (not that it really needed to be said, we stuck out quite a lot.. except in Okinawa..)

I have submitted my retro claims to QFF via email today and will report back with what they say.

Sadly it has now credited and it came through as Flexible Economy, so the Discount Economy plus First Surcharge rule was applied.

Weird that your Tokubin21 was full economy and my Tokubin7 is discount economy. Or maybe the First Surcharge didn't apply correctly? Ah well.

I have an HND-cough coming up and am also struggling to work out what fare class it is. Does JAL have fare classes like we're used to (with a letter), and how can we find it?

The branding is Tokubin21 TypeE, and I booked directly into Class J.

I also stupidly booked it while logged in to my JAL account, so now I can't change the FF number online. I guess I have to call them? The trick to use AY or RJ sites doesn't work (can't find PNR).

Bumping this since I got some more weird JAL domestic crediting activity. Just flew a Ultra SAKITOKU fare (the deepest discount economy fare possible, with a 75 day reservation deadline), and it credited as Flexible Economy to QFF.

I did do an on-departure upgrade to First for 10k JPY, so maybe for some reason it credited as "Discount Economy plus First Surcharge"? Who knows.

Either way this is all moot I suppose since JAL is switching to a new domestic fare structure in the coming days.

I have another update from a recent trip to Japan.
Flew two domestic Explorer Pass Plus flights in G class, one HND-TAK and one ITM-HND. They credited as below

On the ITM-HND flight I upgraded to First Class at check-in. I assume this is what caused it to credit correctly, whereas my un-upgraded HND TAK flight came through as "No Matching Rule Element".

For domestic flights, JAL doesn't really have the concept of fare classes to my knowledge, hence the strange entries in there.

They do have fare classes for domestic even if you can't see the underlying class online, ranging from G all the way up to Y. G class for domestic hardly credits to anyone except JL and maybe EK.

Interesting. I assume there's no way to find out what the underlying class is for a given booking if booked through the JAL website then?

Anyway, I guess that still doesn't explain why my G + First Upgrade credited as "Economy", as in principle shouldn't "Discount Economy plus First Surcharge" credit as "Flexible Economy"?

I don't think I have seen a way to check the underlying class on the JAL website. The upgrade surcharges are all weird in how they get processed. I have a substantial number of data points but even then I cannot identify the pattern. I believe you should receive the discount Y + F surcharge.
