I’m curious to know of other people’s experiences with the crediting of points, bonus points, SC’s & eligible flight sectors when travelling on EY operated flights having a VA codeshare number.

Recently flew SYD-AUH-LHR-AUH-SYD in business class ticketed by VA with VA flight numbers on EY operated flights.

The SYD-AUH flight was operated by VA so the credit for my VA29 flight came through within a day or so as you would expect. All other flights are yet to be credited.

For the AUH-LHR flight I waited out the 14 days as stipulated on the VA website before making a claim. This is where I encountered an unexpected issue.

It seems that the online facility to claim for missing points doesn’t accept as valid a VA codeshare flight number. My flight was VA7011 which was operated as EY11. Entering VA7011 as the flight number resulted in an error message being produced but entering EY11 was successful. I have followed up by email clarifying the details of my flight and attached my BP.

The LHR-AUH and AUH-SYD VA code share flights are yet to be credited but as yet I’m still within the 14 day window before I can submit a claim. I don’t expect these two flights to be automatically credited and I won’t be using the online claim facility but email the details to the retro email address. Of course I have my boarding passes, e-ticket & itinerary to validate my claim.

I guess it’s naïve of me to think that by now the VA/EY partnership is mature enough that these issues would have and should have been resolved. Note, I’ve not had any similar issues with flying VA codeshare flight numbers operated by DL.

If I knew how to do it, I’d set up a poll to record people’s success on the automatic crediting of VA codeshare flights operated by EY.

Hopefully our friendly Velocity Frequent Flyer (VFF) on this forum might be able to comment on the website issue with the online claiming for codeshare flights.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Even non codeshare flights can be haphazard. A recent trip to Europe saw three of the four legs credited fine and the forth one requiring a missing points claim.

Probably doesn't add any value to your thread, but I did the same trip booked through EY with the VFF numbers added during booking. 13 days have passed and no points have been posted.

Interestingly the outbound flight didn't have the VFF number on the boarding pass but the return flight did, yet EY's online booking system shows the same details for all legs.

I have just (last month) flown 4 legs with EY - Per-AUD-LHR and return in J.

My Velocity number in the booking and on the ticket, not on any of the boarding passes and no points have arrived requiring a missing points claim. I am still waiting.

Between this and the inability to select seats on SQ using a VA flight number I am slowly but surely getting a little tired of Virgin/Velocity.

I just checked a QF to see if a BA flight I took 8 days after my first EY flight had posted. It posted within 24 hours.. That's how it should be. I don't understand why it has to take so long with EY to VFF.

I had a issue this year when Etihad used to fly SIN- BNE .
I booked a SIN-BNE-ADL on Etihad website and entered my velocity number.
After the flights the BNE-ADL posted within a couple days (presume because it was VA metal) but took 6 weeks to get the SIN-BNE leg credited. Velocity came up with all the excuses like you must of entered your velocity number wrong , even though half of the flight the points had posted !!

So far all my flights on EY they have only half credited my flights and I have had to put in a request with virgin for the other leg points to be credited. It has taken 4-6 weeks but they did come through

Very frustrating as I'm relying on the SCs to bump me to SG and I have a couple of trips coming up. They are after the quoted 14 day window but I have a feeling I won't be seeing the SCs posted in time.

Still waiting for an ATH-AUH flight from July to credit. Online retro claim failed (worked for the connecting AUH-MEL sector also on EY).
Total shambles and won't bother trying to credit anything to VA again :(

Why did the online claim fail?

I wouldn't be giving up on something that is rightly yours. Assuming you have the documentary evidence to substantiate your claim, I'd be ringing almost every day chasing it up and would be requesting to speak to a supervisor.

Update to the above quote. I called the VFF call centre and they suggested I lodge a missing points claim for the outbound flights which they did and advised the points would be in my account within 72 hours. The claim needs to be at least 7 days after the flight so I have to wait until Friday for the return flight.

Rather annoying as I need to do the same for the other PAX.

Just a screw around for something that should be automated and based on reports, they can't seem to get right.

I've flown EY PER-JFK twice and HKT-LHR and MIA-AUH-HKT and had to chase points on at least one leg every time. Incredibly frustrating.

I did a trip early this year MEL-BNE-AUH-BEG (all VA flight numbers) then TXL-AUH (AB flight number - linked to QF membership), AUH-MEL (VA)
all points credited apart from the AUH-BEG which I had to chase, but I believe that was probably because I was a last minute upgrade to business class, so would have been rebooked on to an EY flight number, and my VA membership in the booking wasn't specifically looking for EY flight numbers.

Chased it up, and received the credit after just over a month (at ticketed level)

all the other flights credited within a week of travel.

What happened to "credit within 72 hours" as per the VA website?

I used to be a VA fan but now I travel a lot more than before and it's all getting a bit too hard. Can't choose seats on SQ, need 8 VA flights a year (double QF) etc etc.

Just did Melbourne to Paris via Abu Dhabi return all ticketed VA but codeshare on Etihad Metal, used all lounges, got the special treatment that they use for "valued clients" but the points and status are no where to be seen. I have filed a claim, had to scan and email all boarding passes which I have done and a week later still nothing.
i want these points to get me to Platinum perform a family holiday to the USA. Sigh. Waiting and waiting common VA don't let down great service on the trip with bad after trip care.

As the OP, your experience with missing points precisely mirrors my experience reported. It would definitely seem to be a systemic failure with the automatic crediting of points in this scenario. I've been told it's now a manual process to have the missing points credited and to allow 4-6 weeks.

Regarding your experiences with the Etihad lounges, as a a VA Platinum member in transit in AUH on the way to LHR I was able to access the reserved area for first class passengers in the lounge in T3 but on the return flight I was told they were too busy to allow me the same access.

Yep, I just got a bit peeved when reading thia thread again and called Velocity, the claim was found to have an "error" so they have given me the 4-6 weeks timeline to sort it out. My experiance says 4-6 means 8-12 weeks and I will thus miss being a WP for the trip to Miami and thus any bonus accural points. The lady on the phone was very polite and apologetic but frankly when we all fly we pre pay even if it is 12 months in advance, they get everything up front and we wait and wait for anything else on the other end. Still anything is better than flying Jetstar !!

I'm in a similar position except the SC's are going to boost me up to SG and I have upcoming trips commencing this week. So basically I miss out on lounge access, priority check in & baggage just because Virgin can't credit parter earns within a reasonable time frame.. When I explained this to the Facebook team they just said "sorry". Great to see they are trying to do something to resolve the issue for me (sarcasm).
