Hey all,
We are trying to travel back from south Germany (Frankfurt/Munich etc) to Australia (preferably Sydney) in mid-late August (preferably 20-24th).

Not much availability but I've come up with a few creative routings on the BA website via asia.
Unfortunately Qantas doesn't seem able to see this availability when using 'multi-city' on their website nor on the phone. I'm trying to keep it to a single award chart and stops <24h to minimize points required.

E.g.
22nd Munich-> Haneda via DOH (QR)
24th Narita -> Sydney (JL)

See picture
Unfortunately Qantas can't see these flights :( I've tried calling them twice. No dice.
Any tips or suggestions?

Creative .... Colombo? How many pax? PAX 1&2: MUC-DOH-CMB-xx_-SYD, where xx_=MEL for Pax #1 and xx_=KUL for Pax #2. Aaaagh!!

Two pax, flying together (lol).
Yeah Qatar has reasonable availability into Colombo, but getting out together is a challenge.

Otherwise, save the points and pay the $$$ You would have to make your own way to the cheap departures cities although, Germany is most definitely not in this category. Places like Copenhagen, Oslo, Prague, Warsaw etc often have good deals ($2500 oneway) on carriers like SQ and CX. Not good for cash poor, points rich, but would save what 180,000 pts? + > $500 in taxes.

There are some cheap fares from Frankfurt with Condor ($1450) where the long-haul bit is angled flat business and the shorter bit is day-time economy. That's my backup plan, but I'd like to maximise a 139k partner award if possible.

That even narrows it down further, as don't you have to pay separate award points if you change partner airlines on the itinerary? So QR to NRT and then JL from HND to SYD would be 104,000 for QR flights + 78,000 for JL flights.

Oh is the partner award chart applied per carrier? Damn. I assumed it was per distance only.

You could keep it to 128k points in total for J if you only use QF & EK (and/or other airlines listed on the same award chart). But the taxes carrier charges will probably be eye-watering. With this method you'd probably have to use EK from Europe to somewhere in Asia (via DXB), then QF onwards to Australia. JQ can also be used (e.g. if you need a connection from KUL-SIN you can use 3K for that and it will still price at the 128k level).

Interesting. So the "Qantas Classic Flight Reward table" is applied to the total distance, but the "Partner Classic Flight Reward table" is applied to each individual carrier in the trip?

Yeah those QF/EK carrier charges are very high. I've found a QR option but the surcharges are still $700pp :(

Correct.

I know the OP wants to fly through Asia but I’ve often found great availability with EK to AKL. Something like FRA-DXB-AKL on EK and then AKL-SYD on QF would be 128k also. The biggest downside is the charges will be up near $1k but over 20 hours on the EK A380 in J makes up for that!
You might also be lucky enough to draw the A330 in J from AKL-SYD
