Could someone travelling through JFK or LAX please do me a huge favour?

Hi guys,

Since I started travelling for work extensively a few years ago, I've started to build up an Absolut Vodka collection. Truth be told I really don't like the stuff (though some of the flavours go well in coughtails), but I enjoy collecting it. :) I've got all the flavours (bar Peppar and 100), and all the special editions from the past few years, and I'd like to add the latest to my collection - ABSOLUT ROCK EDITION

I saw it on-board the Helsinki-Tallinn ferry today, but would rather not lug it around in my suitcase if I can buy it in JFK or LAX, or SYD (already got enough scotch in there to weigh down the bag, after a visit to Scotland! :)).

If anyone's going through JFK or LAX (or even SYD) and you happen to pass the DFS alcohol, could you let me know if they have it, and how much it is? It's a black bottle cover, studded, fake leather.

Many thanks!

Cheers,
- Febs.

Oh, and if anyone knows how much Glenfiddich 21yo is currently going for at JFK/LAX DFS, it'd also be much appreciated!

Thanks :)

Febs,
No promises but I'll try to have a look in LAX as we pass through on the 10th Oct if that is any good.;)

I'm happy to keep an eye out (I actually have all the flavours, Peppar is available in 1L bottles locally here, so keep an eye out for it, there are no 700mL bottles. I know of a place or 2 in Melbourne that stock it, PM me if you want it - it's great for bloody marys!).

Every time I've been thru LAX I've never seen any of the absolut special editions. I tend to get mine from MEL/SYD or even AKL. I too am keeping an eye out for Rock for myself (after colors was the last one which I picked up in SYD). There was also an actual Absolut Red, which was the original 100 proof. You can still buy Absolut 100 from Dan Murphys in 1L bottles (as well as 700ml). I'm sure it's still in Duty Free too:)

It's a pretty bog standard vodka, but the bottles adorn a large part of our bar here.

Just as a side matter it is worth noting that duty free purchases are not permitted for the first leg of QF108 (JFK-LAX). your only option is to buy in LAX - and depending on how late QF10late is, these shops may be closed (as it was on my last trip).

Thanks guys. Straitman - thanks for the offer but I should have mentioned, I'm heading out myself on the 9th.

MEL_Traveller - Ah, of course! Didn't think of that. Have caught QF108 many times, but always from LAX, never from JFK. Cheers. :)

drewbles - Heh, same. It seems to be a bit of a talking point within my alcohol collection too. :) I've seen Peppar and 100 quite a few times, but haven't picked them up because I've always had other bottles I've wanted to spend my allowance on (I also tend to collect Glenfiddich too, slowly building that collection up :)). I really should get Peppar and 100 though, just to complete the collection.

Edit: While I'm here, do you know of any other special editions I'm missing? I've got Bling Bling, Disco, Masquerade and the Colours one. I've also got Absolut Los Angeles (quite nice!) but haven't been able to get my hands on Absolut New Orleans. Wikipedia says there's also a new Absolut Boston. I hope they bring out a Sydney one (I voted)!

Cheers,
- Febs.

you seem to be missing the absolute 'bar' edition. Comes in a large square (rectangular) plastic box just a little bit bigger than the 1 litre bottle itself. The box is white and patterned on the outside. It opens at the top, sideways, and has two little flaps that then click into place. One side you place your ice cubes, the otherside is for lime and lemon slices. The bottle sits on a little stand in the middle of the two halves.

I bought mine in China.

You're missing the first one - Absolut Second Skin. It's a white plastic casing with snowflake cutouts. I've mostly gone off Absolut vodka now, but I still want the full collection ;) am missing one of the flavours, but I'll pick that up duty free sometime.

I've got both the New Orleans and Los Angeles - the New Orleans is nice, but not nearly as nice as the actual Absolut Mango that got released.

Maybe we should set up a sticky for duty free requests for and from AFF'ers?

Ah, yeah I saw that - Absolut were hosting a few "pop up lounges" around Shanghai a few weeks ago (to promote it I think). Considered buying it...but curse that 2.25L limit (even with a 4.5L combined limit this time, it's too limiting!)

Ah, haven't heard of that one. Guessing it's quite hard to come by now.

There's also a blank bottle I've seen on the net...not sure where/when that was released though. No label.

I think that's a great idea. Mods?

I think that was a limited edition released in parts of Europe earlier this year.

There's also the absolut shaker. It's a cover like the rest, but doubles as a coughtail shaker (a bad one - it's plastic) but it's silvery.

I too have the new orleans and los angeles. Boston will be purchased when i'm there next week, along with rock. I'll just drink the bottle there and bring the cover back (It's just standard vodka in the bottle).

They also did aluminium ones in Germany with artwork on them that were limited editions.

Perhaps as notzac suggests, a sticky for DF runs for people (to help other AFF'ers out with these kinds of requests) would be useful:)

and also...

From left to right...
New Orleans
"Winter" Second Skin
Bling
Disco
Plain
Red
100
Peppar
Citron
Mandarin
Kurrant
Vanilla
Raspberry
Apeach
Ruby Red Grapefruit
Pears
Mango

Also in the collection (need a new photo)
Los Angeles
Masquerade
Silver Shaker (as mentioned previously)

Will update when I get back from the USA with Boston and Rock (although I think i'll need a longer shelf top!)

Well I'm glad I picked up the 1L Rock Edition on the Tallink - it was nowhere to be found in LAX, nor SYD. :)

I also found Boston! Dropped into a few bottle shops in NYC looking for New Orleans, which they'd all recently sold out of, but one of them had Boston. Very happy, as I wasn't expecting to find it at all. :)

It's...different. "Black Tea and Elderflower" is the flavour, but personally it just tastes like Black Tea vodka to me - no Elderflower that I can taste. Not bad, just different. I'll have to try it in one of their suggested coughtails.

Cheers,
- Febs.
