As the article states. It's not the first instance. I also seem to recall a similar issue on a DL flight not too long ago.

The Chinese government doesn't tolerate people who embarrass the state. Hopefully these people will get their passports cancelled.

Edit: that's not enough, they can still fly Dom :p

This type of toilet behaviour is common in China - propping the toddler up while they 'go'. Some apartment blocks even in Shanghai still don't have sanitation, and so this occurs in the street. It's probably not the optimal solution for anyone, but not a lot of choice sometimes. Just because people are on a plane probably doesn't automatically make them 'wiser'.

It's not limited to Chinese. Plenty of reports of Western people changing babies at airplane seats (either on the floor or on tray tables), or even on the tables at fast food restaurants (including at airports).

Westerners have no excuse. But for some Chinese this is something that is part of their daily life.

The fact that this has caused a fair bit of outrage even in China suggests this is not actually "normal" even there, but yes sanitation standards do differ.

Having said that Im not that convinced western societies are so much different, I've seen plenty of examples of people having defecated or urinated in public places both here and in other Western Countries. There are fewer of us so I dont normally see them "at it" but the evidence that it has occurred is hard to hide.

fairly common in the street in HK too,

people are learning - a lot of folk were living in small farming villages only a few years before coming to the city and learning a different set of manners and customs

Yep. Have seen a baby changed on a seat and on a tray, separate occasions, on JQ between Syd and Ool. Both Anglo. This type of behaviour may be more prevalent in some other cultures, but it's certainly not confined to them.

No doubt! But then there are 400 million or so relatively new middle class ready to be outraged by their fellow countryfolk!

I'm sure most of those 400 million people know how toilets look like and those who don't should not be allowed to fly. God knows what else they can do while in the air.

That was my point. The 400 million middle class are well aware of toilets, and are able to be 'outraged' against those who may not have the same access to sanitation, and who may not necessarily know 'better'.

This was a domestic flight, it's not unreasonably foreseeable something like this will happen if it is still practiced on the ground. I think it's far worse in western culture where everyone knows you shouldn't change a baby in the cabin on the tray table, but they do it anyway.

Yep, happened on my VA domestic flight today.

To her credit the FA sternly advised the changer to take the baby to the lav (the same FA had told the couple that there was a change table in the lav when briefing them on the infant belt, so ignorance was not the issue).

They just keep confirming my real life experiences. Disgusting people with no regard for anyone other than themselves.

Lol Just drop ya draws and take a dump in the aisle.... Hahahaha gross but hey, i dont give a ****

Google kaidangku. You still these everywhere in China. The first time I saw them and then saw the kid "going" I couldn't believe my eyes, but I have got used to it now.
