I've been undecided whether or not to upgrade to pe for about $300pp as there's still PE seats on one of our flights.

Pity about the queue to transfer planes at Brisbane was over 30 minutes long just to get half way along. I'm glad I'm not be rererouted via Sydney.

How long does it take a staff member to hand out shuttle vouchers to each person??? Surely the staff could walk along the queue and hand out a voucher to everyone who says they're on the VA plane to coughet.

Pity that delay was followed by delays catching the shuttle.

1 minute to spare is just too close a shave. If you were on Jetstar you're goose would've been well done.

Pity the FAs didn't respond to your buzzers.

Pity the beef stroganov had grissly bits. (Eat before your board, unless you'll waiting 30 or more minutes in a queue).

A sparkling white on take off, and a bit of salmon in the salad, doesn't entice me into pe either.

of course! Sounds a little too cheap to be true was what I was implying.

Though great pics etc :)

The checkin lady in the Intl terminal told me that they had been selling PE to J for that flight for $150 - if that is the normal cost or not, I am unsure. But I am wanting to see if there is availability tmrw for my return, I plan on getting to the airport nice and early this time :p

Actually, even if the upgrade is $300 I would still cough up as its a night flight...

Ah i c missing the necessary smiley ;):D or . In line with what EK offer for upgrades on similar length flights when oversold in Y.

For some reason we were unable to get boarding passes issued in SYD for the BNE-HKT flight, so the transfer desk in Brisbane was to checkin and obtain boarding passes for that leg. There were a few "issues" ahead of us in the queue, so that held the line up substantially (the poor VA girl was constantly speaking on the phone/walkie talkie - who knows, it may have been work for the dole day :D)

Anyway - VA really need to sort out this whole transfer thing or make the whole process much more efficient...

So..... the elusive $150 upgrade from PE to J failed to materialise. So +1 and I decided to cough up the $500 each and pay for the proper upgrade. Had a massive night in Patong last night finishing up at 6am, so the $500 is worth every cent. Feeling very average. Never again.
Trip report to come.

I thought I'd read another of your TRs.

I was on the inaugural flight BNE-HKT (IIRC mid Nov), with that xx_ times world surfing champion, a GC "entertainer", some old rocker/ fashion designer and some champagne company/ virgin execs. To be honest I thought it was kind of pathetic; like being seated next to some C class celebrity like that midget Arnold from "Different Strokes". Anyway, it's not a TR but here are some thoughts.

I was impressed,as you were Hayden with the IFE. But I believe you failed to mention that it was all "touch screen", even in economy.

Back track; they greeted us at checkin with some non alcoholic coktails and some finger food. The drink had parsley in it IIRC and was good. I didn't try the food.

On boarding, they had some thai girls in full traditional regalia. That was nice. On board, they had the traditional announcements of being the inaugural flight etc etc. Food was ok.

They had two guys (one playing guitar and the other singing) for a couple of hours throughout the journey which I found annoying. J seat pitch was acceptable, but the y+ cabin looked like a rip-off; little discernible difference to Y, albeit in a different "partioned" cabin.

On arrival, we were again greeted by tradionally dressed Thai ladies and a little bit of fanfare (e.g. they gave everyone that I saw an aloha type of neckwear).

Final thoughts; V J is solid and represents good value for money. I wouldn't personally pay extra for Y+ as I don't see the value in hard product unless you're really tall. For an 8hr flight, I'd guess though that the Y product is acceptable, particularly given the superb IFE touchscreen capabilities.

Thank god I wasn't on that flight - couldn't think of anything worse than hours of serenading on a 8hr flight...

And what was with non-alcoholic coughtails!?!

They only sang for about 2-3 hrs IIRC throughout all cabins, and they were very good. But I prefer to be left alone onboard, without feeleing the need to be polite to watch two guys sing. Why go on an inagurual when I know this stuff happens? Some perverse sense, of being the first perhaps - and I've always got my headphones.

Sorry it was mint in the (non-alcoholic) coughtails IIRC now, and about 8-9am. BTW I forgot to mention; another plus of the V BNE-HKT service is the decent departure/ arrival hours.
