cost effective J from LAX to Sydney

Just wondering if anybody has an idea to do the above in J in early December,

just looking at one way, dont care about how many stops, just do not fancy in Y, i had a look at QF and there is no availability for award seats in J,

any other one worlds i could try, also do not mind paying a reasonable price if seats do come up,

Are you looking for an award seat or a cash fare?

(I suspect there may not be that many award seats left though now, as that is a popular route during a peak time, and you're leaving it a little late for that.)

For a cash fare, have you looked at Fiji Airways?

How are you getting over to LAX? If you live in Australia you can combine an outbound fare in economy with in inbound fare in business which is much cheaper than buying a one way fare in isolation LAX/SYD.

Another option you could do is use Qantas points LAX/HNL which is approx 25,000 plus USD5.00 in taxes for economy on AA and have a stopover for a couple of days in Hawaii. Then purchase a JQ sale fare in Star Class and though they don't have flat beds only recliner seats it's still a comfortable way to travel HNL back to Oz which is a day flight anyway so surviveable in whY.

The cheapskate way would be to book an economy sale fare HNL/Aust & hope for an email upgrade offer prior to departure however naturally there's no guarantees you'll get one.

will already be in the states, so only need a one way fare,

how do you book AA awards, do you have to ring up for them??

Also look at Syd to NRT (via JL or QF) then onwards with AA or JL.
Check with travel agent for pricing.

I have used this and usually find it ends up being SYD-NRT with JL, then NRT-(USA) with AA, then AA to NRT, then NRT to SYD with QF.
And especially good going to ORD as a side note.

depends on your budget... there are one way fares with Fiji Airways to Nan (business class) connecting to Jetstar NAN-SYD for USD1600 one way. That increases to USD2000 if you want Fiji Airways the whole way in business class. You can credit Fiji Airways to Qantas for points.

Alternatively, Japan Airlines will fly you premium economy the whole way to SYD for USD1500 one way.

If you're doing the via Japan thing you could take advantage of the AA bonus 60K miles offer & purchase a Miles SAAver award ex USA to NRT then purchase a JQ Star Class fare NRT to Oz or do a second AA award NRT/SYD on QF (NRT/BNE an option August onwards).

AA common rates all US cities and the taxes are very low too.

You could also buy some Alaska miles which could be used on CX via HKG as QF U class award seats trans-Pac are hard (but not impossible) to find.

It's the purchase of miles to use for award seating.

AA is currently offering a 60% bonus when you purchase the maximum annual allowance of 100K miles, giving a total of 160K.

You are eligible to purchase if you have an existing AA account more than 30 days old at any time during the promo period.

Availability will be dependent on award seats.
