Yes the anti ILS fear mongers have done a wonderful job of distorting the facts.

FWIW I made my thoughts clear on the website set up to deal with what the publics views were. Principally that I was in favour of the project. But I doubt it'll go ahead thanks to the crazy backlash. Wonder if the GC realises where tourists come from :p

I have been amazed at some of the claims made and some of what I have read. Disappointingly some agendas other than the ILS have emerged in this public consultation.

Not being a local, I have to ask whether the main 'other agenda' is claimed (perceived) large lowering of property values? Or are other things (I struggle to think what - aircraft accidents - careering into bedrooms of houses) also being mentioned by those who are (as you put it) 'anti ILS?

My perception of OOL is that it is the Australian domestic airport best placed to be a strong competitor to a State's capital city airport. Thus far, AVV and NTL are ineffective competitors to MEL and SYD respectively: OOL is reasonably effective as far as a 'Mexican' can judge.

You have named but 2 of the crazy claims. Real estate 'experts' were quoted as saying up to 50% property value reductions under the new flight path. Funny how all those beach side properties at Currumbin and Tugun have maintained their value all these years.
As for the aircraft crashing into homes, well thats just outrageous. There are posters circulating at council meetings showing images of Surfers Paradise beach with jet aircraft flying at 300 feet and people claiming their day at the beach/holiday will be ruined by constant aircraft traffic. All ridiculous claims but given oxygen.
