Hi,
My family is travelling LAX to SYD on United and connecting economy class SYD-BNE on Qantas .
We are entitled to 2 hold bags each on UA but the usual one bag only if doing a straight QF domestic flight in Australia.
I am asking if QF is obliged to accept our 2 bags each when we arrive at SYD , collect our bags and check in with QF at the international terminal to go to BNE.

Are you on separate tickets for the flights, or is it under the same PNR?

If you look at the title you will see the answer.

To the OP as they are seperate bookings then Qantas has no obligation what so ever to recognise the US peice system for what is essentially a standalone domestic flight, so domestic allowances will apply. If you know you are going to have two bags your best off buying pre-paid additional baggage.

The second bag charge booked in advance with QF will be relatively small in the scheme of an overseas trip.

If you plan to being two bags per pax, per-book the extra as QF are very unlikely to give you the second bag for free (given separate bookings).

Alternatively, bring one bag and then you can buy and fill a second to take home (and only pay the second bag feed on the way home!).

I couldn't see the complete title on my phone, hence the question;)

Agreed with the answer. Funny thing is QF and UA have an interline agreement in place, however due to the separate tickets don't be surprised if the bags are only tagged to SYD.

Again as they are seperate bookings UA by all rights should not onwards tag anyway even if they do have an interline agreement.

Though if on the same ticket, which a flight of mine a few months back was (LAX-SYD-CBD) then yes UA will check to the final destination but clearly bags must be collected in Sydney anyway. It is all academic anyway because 9/10 if I get to Sydney with a carrier other than a OneWorld then Qantas will remove the other tags and put their own on. Not sure if that is so they get priority or not though.

Just easier to issue a new bag tag, then enter the old tag details.
