A problem to learn from:

A have an eight segment reservation for some time and there have been numerous changes advised and agreed. The reservation has a mix of z and u class.

I was checking seat allocations on line as I have found these change from time to time, which is a problem when travelling with someone who is on a different reservation.

I noticed on one segment I had changed from 1f to 10a. Examining the booking it was u class. It had been booked z and fortunately I still had a print out of the reservation from a fortnight earlier which showed z class. On searching I was relieved to find z was still available.

The event that caused this class change appears to have resulted from QR changing from a A330-200 to a A330-300 for the flight. As the flight number and times had not changed, no change notification was issued.

Getting this change corrected has taken 3 calls and hours of time. Unfortunately US Air have long wait times at present. To say they were reluctant to correct this is an understatement.
They maintained it had always been a u booking, they had no record of class change. I think only because I had documentary proof, the class was reinstated to z by way of an invoice and a credit.

From this experience I would recommend keeping a complete printed record of the history of the reservation, check the reservation online regularly in detail, don't rely on being notified of changes and don't just accept on face value what the Reps tell you.

Since I mostly book flights more than 6 months out, such nonadvised changes are a regular problem.

So monitoring regularly is really important.

Another thing i do is use expert flyer seat alerts to monitor my actual allocated seats. it is surprising how often 1 or 2 may become free with no obvious reason why.
