Considering Abandoning Qantas for Singapore Airlines

I don't think that has been confirmed at all has it?

I flew SQ217 SIN-MEL last week in the New First Class (updated 77W) , nice improvement over the previous seat, softer and slightly more leg room, same size TV but now with HDMI input, I thought the iphone-like IFE controller was a bit overkill though. Great service, only 2 of us in the cabin, very private

Great to hear the refitted 77W being used on SQ217. Hoping to give it a try on an upcoming J trip, but obviously no way to know prior. Luck of the draw I guess.

It is not a regular occurrence so don't get too excited
Exactly - SQ are changing metal willy nilly it appears. We flew 306 MEL-LHR Tue - orig 380 - swapped to 77W with new F - ended up 77W with old F - almost to stage you just CANNOT rely on any metal any route.

Do SQ give you a warning when they change metal for a flight you booked?
Does this ever involve loss of a suite?

Looking for information regarding SQ co-pay for award flights.

Can see it will cost 265,000 for suites/first saver SYD-LHR-SYD but can't get a handle on the co-pay $$. QF is 384,000 + $1,550 .... how does SQ stack up?

Thanks.

Should be $1364.16. Very easy to work out co-pay, all you do is price the flight on commercial booking engine and beneath the total price is "View fare breakdown". Click on that and it shows the fuel fines (aka Carrier surcharges) and Airport/Government taxes. As per:

Total of your selection
AUD 13,573.16

(Includes taxes and surcharges)
Additional baggage charges may apply

Thank you.

Look very compelling! Time to get some new CC....

I have just done the same. Westpac Altitude Black seems excellent - especially as there is no point limit and ATO still accepts this. I also like the fact that overseas purchases earn points at the same rate as Amex. Unfortunately you have just missed out on the double points for 3 months promotion.

Definitely after the event / decision - I was booked on the upper deck exit row in economy on the A380 SIN-LHR next month, and only found out about the change to a 777 when I logged into my account to find that my seat allocation for this leg was blank rather than listing the Preferred Seat that I'd booked. I immediately booked one of the few remaining Preferred Seats on the 777 (it takes several days to sort this out via the Call Centre), but got stung for a 2nd Seat Fee and am still having "discussions" with SQ about getting this refunded, given that their decision to change the operating aircraft meant I lost my original Preferred Seat........... How long can it take for them to see what should be a very obvious point and refund the duplicate fee?

Their customer service does seem very mixed. I am still waiting, after a further prompt, to get a reply about a delayed luggage incident from 4 months ago when I was given incorrect information.

It has been a while since I started this thread, so I thought I would post an update and ask some questions.

After being a long time Qantas F flyer, I am in the process of trying the SQ product.
I have had my new Westpac Altitude Black card for about a month and am using it for nearly everything. I am currently in Europe and love the fact that with this card I can still earn 3 points / $ spent even using Mastercard instead of Amex. Currently earning double points, hence will shortly have enough Altitude points for some F flights.

Questions:
What is the correct sequence for purchasing Suite Savers ? Do I locate the seats first on SQ site, then move my Altitude points to SQ then purchase? Or will this take too long and my seats may be gone? Do people generally move a bunch of points from Altitude to SQ prior to isolating an appropriate availability?

If Suite Savers are listed as waitlist rather than available, what is the best way to proceed? Do I use more miles and purchase Standard fare rather than Saver ( if I am willing to burn more points) or do I check the Waitlist box and wait? For how long?

If I do purchase a Suite as Standard (rather than Saver) can I later get a refund if a Saver seat becomes available?

I can't seem to locate rules regarding cancellation of award flights - are points refunded? Are there any fines / fees for cancellations?

Many thanks for any advice.
