I couldn't find a dedicated HH board thread for this hotel, so here it is (mods please move if I've had a search fail).
Status: Diamond
Stay: 25/2-1/3
Booked: Base Room 3 adults
Received: 2nd floor Conrad Suite
Rate: 40k points p.n. (= 50k p.p.n. 5th night free)
Fantastic value and wonderful diamond treatment. A great base for day trips within south Bali now the toll bridge exists. We were very happy with the upgrade and that having our younger daughter along (the 3rd adult) was no problem. Very bubbly reception staff, young fellow seemed genuinely excited for our upgrade. And he was right, the Conrad Suites are fabulous - designed with a lot of thought to make them very comfortable, useable, liveable spaces. We asked for either 2 queens, or a king plus a rollaway. We got 2 queens pushed together (the size of a small European nation) plus a rollaway. We would have preferred a regular king but got Your Love is King (more on that later).
Loved the pools, the beach, the coughtails, the views, the incredible breakfasts and the level of detail put into the whole experience. Plenty of space, bales always available and didn't feel crowded (50%+ occupancy). Laundry was only ~$11 for a bag of 12 items, same day. Handy location with shops, restaurants just outside if you want to mix it up a bit. Lovely gardens (water features could do with some lotus to soften them). Offered a private tour of the penthouse, lap pool and ocean view suites (feel welcome to ask me Qs on these), as well as a coconut picked off a tree for us and sliced open to drink, just in the course of chatting with various staff, great fun. Just what we needed, the whole easy holiday thing. The conrad app response time is super quick there, for pillow requests etc. 6pm checkout no probs and urged to keep enjoying the facilities, which included the Reflections Lounge - good for a shower before our late flight.
Room for improvement: the bed was not great - quite firm and much less plush than a regular hilton one, no pillow top. Back pain setting in, I asked for a mattress topper and they put a quilt under the base sheet which didn't help. Rollaway was far better - soft and supportive. The suite had a very mouldy and drainy smell - if we'd booked the suite outright we would have asked for a new room, but we were happy just to keep the doors open/fans on. Whole resort could do with a good clean + maintain (the Grand Hyatt was sparkling), but room housekeeping was excellent, including making up our room on the checkout day - much appreciated.
...and then there was the music in the Lounge/Rin area - a truly bizarre experience. A Sade album was playing when we arrived. That's nice, right? Well it was on repeat for the next two days, and we could hear it from our room (overlooks the lounge pool). Diamond Life indeed. (Actually, no, it was Love Deluxe, 92) A message to Conrad Bali went ignored, but on the 3rd day, they switched to Amy Winehouse. Over and over again, Back to B(l)ack, driving us crazy.
We did not Wake Up Alone the next day (hello Amy) so we asked (begged) the breakfast staff to change it (we Didn't Still Love Her Tomorrow), lest we need Rehab. They did (ambient flute music) but it all seemed a bit of an issue - they were worried what the manager would say, and from then on we were always asked nervously if the music was ok, as if we had unusually difficult musical tastes (rather than just, well... ears).
The Lounge, upstairs from Rin, owns one album - a cheesy country and western something. They played this at coughtails, in conjunction with a Conrad video on a loop ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsjTbbBOfEA but dial your connection right down to get the full effect of the skipping sound). We ended up doing coughtails at East Lounge, where the food, view and music were all far better (bigger range of nibbles, ocean vista and acoustic/ambient mix).
Sade made another appearance a following day - 5pm onwards. Hilariously, about 5 repeats in, a generic non-reply from our message finally arrives ("sorry for the thing that happened, we've definitely taken your feedback on board about the thing"). Nothing Can Come Between Us and Sade - we could hear her through the doors like she was By Your Side. By 10pm, now clinically insane and unable to sleep we called to beg for mercy. No luck, our sultry songstress was still powering on half an hour later as we fell into The Sweetest Gift of all - sleep, where we could finally Feel No Pain. Is It A Crime?
While the lounge at the Grand Hyatt Bali (where we also stayed, I'll write a TR on the Hyatt board) was infinitely better, overall, it was great value and a fun stay.
