Have to get from Sydney T3 (arrive 11am) to T1 (departs 1.05pm) for connection on Delta International Flight – should I be ok.

Should be fine.

But terms and conditions apply, surely? . After time to de plane, and boarding Delta no less than 30 mins prior to departure, there is only maybe 75 mins to play with.

So I would put T&Cs as:

• Inbound on time
• No bags to collect and re check
• Has express lane access at T1 security and immigration

OP: check the arrival stats for your inbound; if there is recent history of being late, I would try for more time between flights. But I am always conservative in my travel.

So if you're flying into SYD T3 you're on a QF operated flight. Is the outbound DL flight in the same pnr? If so, your bags can be through checked onto DL but you'll still need to get your boarding pass from DL once you arrive at T1 and you can take the QF airside shuttle bus from gate 15 at domestic around to the international terminal.

If you have two separate bookings you'll need to collect your bags at T3 then take the train or the Tbus around to T1.

Two separate bookings QF domestic and DL international.

Can I still use the QF airside shuttle bus from gate 15?

How do you get a express lane access pass for T1 security and immigration?

Thanks to all for the help/advice - much appreciated.

You can use the QF airside shuttle bus if you have hand luggage only (HLO) as there's no room for large suitcases on the bus.

As you're on 2 separate pnrs, if you have checked luggage you'll need to take the train or the Tbus from T3 to T1 after you collect it from the luggage carousel at T3.

As for the Express immigration cards I imagine you'd need to be a DL Sky Miles Big Kahuna or in J class to qualify for one of those but it never hurts to ask.

Given the additional information, I would say that the OP's current transfer time is not enough and would urge him/her to reschedule. As the tickets are separate PNRs, you will be responsible if you miss the Delta flight (loss of ticket? refund?? depending on ticket type but huge inconvenience guaranteed).

I would check with Delta direct as their website lists minimum check in times for most airports but not SYD.

If no luggage I would have thought you are OK especially if already checked in.

I would not check in less than 1.5 hours, but having said that arrived at LHR 1.01 hours before BA flight to YYR with bags and made it (1 hour is checked cutoff). I did have fast track however.....

I guess the transfer would be smoother if the domestic flight was with Virgin and not Qantas?

With two separate bookings, nope.

If I recall correctly, VA can't through check baggage unless all flights are on the same ticket. So with VA domestic you'd still need to claim bags, get to T1 and recheck. And you can't use the transfer bus VA provide (or likely cannot) as you would need to get to airside T2 after claiming bags to be able to use it.

For the OP, you have effectively 1 hour to collect bags then get to T1 to recheck in after landing at SYD T3. Normally this would be fine but I'd watch carefully on the day if there are signs your service is delayed. On a scale from 1 to 10 being least riskiest to most, I'd rate this situation as a 4, or a 3 if you don't have any checked baggage.

If you're going to be one of the last to checkin on DL make sure you pre-allocate your seat now (I don't think they charge to do this) or expect a middle seat.

At least if you do OLCI all you have to worry about is the bag drop but close off for bags is still the same time as for checkin.

Getting nervous now…

Qantas wants 3500 points + $80 X 2 if I change ticket to an earlier flight (Its complicated – I have a QF award booking with a domestic flight linked to a return international flight i.e. OOL-SYD-BKK-SYD-OOL all on the same PNR).

Stats. for OOL-SYD QF861 look ok and I have no check-in bags. Although need an express lane access pass for T1.

Are you saying that the OOL/SYD leg of the above ticket is for the same day as the DL flight booked SYD/LAX with the other 3 flights for a future date?

I'm not sure whether you would qualify for an Express card for immigration as QF at OOL would only hand one out if you are a Plat freq flyer or in J or P connecting to an international flight on QF or a OW airline.

As the DL flight is totally separate as far as they're concerned you're only travelling OOL/SYD.
If you had elite status with DL they should issue you with one.

Rather than start a new thread . . .

The MCT for QF domestic to domestic in SYD is 30 minutes, yet the QF website won't give me QF1476 CBR-SYD and then QF569 SYD-PER. The former arrives at 3.55pm and the latter departs at 4.30pm.

Any reason? Does it have to do with the incoming flight being a Dash 8 and therefore maybe taking longer to unload or something?

As far as I know, QF enforce (on their website at least) a connection of at least 40 minutes for Domestic to Domestic at all major cities. It doesn't matter if you are transferring between regional and mainline or any combination thereof.

This has been the case for a long time now.

For connections at regional cities, the minimum is 20 minutes (or maybe 25, can't remember now).

Will it allow you to book that connection on one ticket ?

Not on the website but the TA has forced the connection. The TA said the computer displayed a warning of some sort but still allowed it to be booked as a through fare.

Time will tell whether or not my bags arrive with me.
