Hi,

Bought a .br to KUL over Easter for a trip away, and looking for interesting places to connect to from there (bit over KUL as a destination). Thinking of Taiwan based on a recommendation here and some Googling. CX offer some attractive fares, but I would like some advice regarding connections on the way home.

Routing would be TPE / xHKG / xKUL / MEL. The transit in KUL would be unprotected (on separate tickets). Need to be at work the next day. Missing the flight would be a minor disaster.

TPE / HKG would be on CX463, HKG / KUL on CX723. Flightstats shows that TPE / HKG has an average delay of 4min with std dev of 5min, HKG / KUL average delay of 16 min with a std dev of 16 min. MCT in KUL is 60 minutes.

A two std dev delay on HKG / KUL would cut the connection time to 2 hours 17 minutes. I think this is reasonably safe, but looking for any advice here as to whether there are issues I haven't thought of (or if I'm just overthinking it! ).

Also, does anyone have any experiences or troubles interlining ex-TPE? Research has told me that CX and EK have an interlining agreement, so it should be ok...

The connections look OK. Both the TPE-HKG and HKG-KUL flights should be first flights of the morning so should be OK unless there are delays early.

Unfortunately in my experience with CX there could be significant delays and I have missed connections and also had to overnight in HKG due to miss connection.
