Hi. I’ve got a couple of questions that I’m hoping more seasoned flyers can help me out with. I’m going on a holiday in the UK, starting in London and ending in Edinburgh. I will be departing EDI on a 14.25 BMI flight arriving in LHR T1 at 15.50 and then catch my flight back to MEL via SIN by SIA at LHR T3 at 18:30.

I’m not familiar with how things are in LHR and It was only a couple of weeks after I booked the BMI flight that I realised I might not have given enough time for me to transfer terminals to catch my flight home.

· How long does it normally take for a domestic flight in the UK to exit the terminal after disembarkation, with luggage?
· I assume that since I’m flying from Scotland, I will go through a domestic arrivals process and don’t have to go through customs?
· I booked my international ticket and domestic ticket separately but I just noticed that both BMI and SIA are Star Alliance partners. Can I actually request them to ‘combine’ the travel and tag my luggage all the way through to MEL when checking in with BMI in EDI?

Thank you.

Welcome to AFF, mitzie-b!

I can't categorically answer all your questions but I'm sure someone else will.

I've had mixed experiences waiting for baggage from a domestic UK flight at LHR - from 'reasonable' (~15 mins) to 'slow' (~30 mins)

No customs necessary for domestic arrivals at LHR

You may be able to tag the luggage all the way at EDI, but not sure if that will 'protect' you on separate tickets against misconnecting. I don't think linking the bookings would alter this.

T1 to T3 is a ~10 minutes underground walk, well signposted.

Thank you for the reply, tuapekastar.

15 to 30 minutes plus 10 to 15 minutes walk seems reasonable enough, if the flight is on time. I'm now just putting my hopes on the baggage drop line being shorter than the general check in line if I check in my SIA flight the night before to make it in good time.

This definitely taught me to think things better when making arrangements!
