Connecting baggage QF to TG

I have flight booked with TG ex SYD departing 10am and need to connect from BNE.
Normally I'd fly the night before and stay at Rydges but this time can't do that so I called QF to ask if they can help connecting my luggage although bookings are on separate PNRs.

The QF rep was very helpful, he checked with a senior rep first and then called the airport to double-check. The final answer was: "We will consider your status (P1) and do our best (put a note in the booking) but can't guarantee the system will allow it as it's not on same PNR".

Did anyone managed to connect baggage from QF to non-OW on separate bookings?

Taking status out of the equation - the official QF policy for this is no, they will not transfer the checked baggage to TG.

I have had bags checked through QF to LAX and then Air Canada LAX-YYC (and also the reverse) with separate PNRs and tickets (just checked my last TA arranged itinerary), but the most recent time was almost a year ago, though. Except for the past year, I've done such a transfer regularly and I've never had to re-check at Air Canada on arrival either at LAX or YVR for the onward journey.

You are correct off course and I knew that but decided to call and ask anyway as we all know those policies can be flexible at times.

I really appreciated the QF rep trying to do his best to help instead of simply replying "computer says no" and move on to next call.

Did you call QF to let them know you are connecting to AC on separate booking or just checked in at the airport with both PNRs?

Never called. Just checked in; always happened as far as I can recall so I haven't thought about it much. I do always see my AC flights in QF MMB.

Many of my journeys are OW Circle Pacific SYD-LAX open jaw YVR-HKG-SYD with a separate AC booking LAX-YYC-YVR.

Wonder if having a TA make the booking makes a difference?

What QF wants to save money on is if there are IRROPS or a bag is lost - they don't want to have to pay. AU-LAX-YYC where you have to collect your bags anyway at LAX probably isn't so much of an issue for them? As for the reverse, most other airlines don't particularly worry about saving money and are happy to through check. They want your business!

QF-TG is a problem on separate tickets. I was refused as a gold, but P1 probably has a much better chance!
