Ok so I just requalified Plat on 13 July. I actually fell 22 SCs short of being able to gift SG, but whatever. Here's the email I received. They use the word 'extended'. But really, it should be 'requalified'. If you were extending my year you would be giving me an actual extension, wouldn't you?

We are pleased to let you know that your Platinum membership has been extended for 12 months.
Your new review date is 13 July 2021.
You will be able to see these changes in your Velocity account and in your Velocity App.
Interact with your renewed My Velocity Card from our App where you can easily use it to reference your membership number.
As announced in April 2020, preserving your Velocity Frequent Flyer Status is extremely important to us and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support of Virgin Australia and Velocity Frequent Flyer.

Sounds like they may just have pooled everyone into the "extended" bucket rather than separating out the re-qualified versus non re-qualified.

As an aside, searching back through my emails (I really should delete some of them) to see what terminology they used on mine last year at requal time and it was called "maintaining".

Write an email to the platnum email adress - [email protected], explain that you had already requalified and that the status extension provided no benefit to you as you already had done the required flights. They should come back saying status would be extended for 2021 to 2022

I went a bit overboard in my email saying it made me feel alienated and reconsidering my loyalty.

I think they mean the Plat status will extend through July 2022. Mr Clipped dropped to Gold a week before Velocity announced the extension - then he was emailed to say they would extend his Gold membership a year and that his new review date would be March 2021. Which sounded to us like the way it would wind down normally. Then, they emailed again to clarify that he would retain SG until March 2022.

Insert sad/happy/sad/happy/confused/happy face here.

Theyt also gifted 60 VFF SC to everyone, 20 per month, but not for Jul.
Their wording in the email could be meant to include this.
April I got 20.
May I got 20.
June I got 20.
So they are giving us more time, to try and retain status, now that flying is coming back to as "normal" as it can be, apart from flights to/from Vic with its restrictions.

Hi all, just clarifying that Virgin wrote back to me and great news - status extension (for me) is indeed right through to July 2022!

I got an email to this effect but has your expiry date updated on the website at all? Just want to know if I need to chase this up.

No, my online status still says through to July 2021 only. So keep that email handy, if VA & Velocity survive we may well be chasing them up over this in 12 months time.

Velocity haven't been updating dates untily our actual review date comes around.

Thanks for the info. My review date was May but I had already achieved enough SC and sectors to re-qualify as Gold in Dec last year. Have sent an email querying this status extension to see if they will add the extra year.

So, yes they have extended for the extra year. They state the system is automatic so it won't show up, but "weve already extended it on our end".
Now, just need them to survive :)

Unfortunately living in WA can't go anywhere I want to as could catch Covid and getting back into the state is risky if at all and 2 weeks quarantine. Internally maybe to Broome to escape the winter but they have put up all the accommodation prices hugely. So no way to increase SC's.

Same issue for me (and for wife). I put a bunch of work into flying and moving family pooling around to get her to plat and myself to retain plat.. with the idea she was doing a US trip this year.

Now I haven't flown at all this year and she's made one flight so far - and it was even booked getaway since there was little point in paying the extra for elevate which I'd normally do..

It seems unlikely either of us would make Plat (extension) or retain it. Frankly I don't understand how anyone can retain any status at all (the QLD/NSW border just closed again) unless you're a FIFO that's still working..

Even if I could justify the flying (for work purposes) I can't actually go anywhere.. The last happy hour had some very sharp pricing but from SYD there was a total of one destination I could actually fly to (Ballina!) which didn't require 2 weeks of (self funded!) quarantine in every other state and territory that had offers (WA, SA, NT, TAS)
