Confirming waitlist flight

So I have a confirmed flight MEL to FRA (made prior to the change in redemption rates) in which I waitlisted a SIN to CDG. The waitlist is ready to be ticketed but upon calling they're saying I have to pay at the new redemption rate. :(

That's approx 25k miles extra per pax. Is there a way around this that anyone is aware of?
