They do - it's called a J ticket or points upgrade.

I understand your point however, it appears QF have decided that ASA at the Classic point level isn't filling the till quick enough. They want to fill the cabin with cash, classic or high point burning ASA flyers.

Maybe they have too many elites on the books. Trying to find a seat in the lounges these days - supports this view.

Nonsense. That's like saying a barista was generous in making a cup of coffee for you.

No, it's his job to make you that coffee, just like it is the job of the Red Roo team (I believe RR is not just one person) as Qantas "social media team" to be on AFF, Twitter, Facebook and whatever else.

This isn't some volunteer job and Qantas is not some generous sponsor of the hard-up AFF charitable foundation. Red Roo is a salaried position as a company rep and AFF is part of Red Roo's remit. Part of Red Roo's job.

So get over the idea that we should be grateful for Qantas or Red Roo doing anything here, because they are just doing their job.

I agree. I am a customer, the reason RR's of this world have a job.

Exactly! They do!

If the tills aren't filling quick enough the answer is to reprice to something they find acceptable. Jetstar bundles provide a good indication of where they pricing could be set, imo

A very specific and odd occurrence.

It is not possible to book XASAs to BNE-LRE. Must be booked in commercial bucket. I tried initially for a quote a few days ago and have tried again today to book it. After some investigation was told ASA not permitted on that route. Other regional routes including EMD down the road work fine.

Was going to book flights connecting through. Will now book BNE-LRE r/t as classic and the connecting flights on VA.

First time I've tried to book ASAs on this route, so I am only assuming it used to work. Maybe a computer glitch? Sigh.

I got some ASA's over the phone for MEL-SYD return. I asked the sales attendant why they'd gone from the website. She said that Q had decided to eliminate them, but the backlash had been high so they'd be reimplementing it on the website in the next 3 months..... Ever hopeful. I would be glad if they stayed as they were such great value.

I sincerely hope it does return as it was one of the main differentiators of the QFF Programme in my opinion.

Sadly it will be too late for me as already moved most of my 2014 bookings to competitiors

Wish I had 'too many' high paying customers on my books

The solution is to expand the premium footprint..... not cull loyal high value customers

Yes but those cash paying customers will eventually become points jockeys and if there is nothing to spend those points on, that is worthy of them, then why earn the points on QF by spending the cash in the first place

Why not pay less and get more elsewhere

They want them used in a manner that best serves their interest.

AFAIK QF are industry leaders introducing ASA......looks like they were just too popular for QF's liking.

I wonder if Virgin had followed them fully down this trail - offering sc/pts on ASAs whether this would have come up at all (competitive pressure + another place for large point earners to direct points to...)...?

In fact you would think with Virgin apparently being marketing savvy - they could have jumped in quickly and enhanced their ASA's to earn SC and points to entice people away from QF.

Perhaps their silence and refusal to move [so far] speaks more as to the problems ASA's in their full form bring airlines...??

Would I be wrong in thinking that this would cost QF even more. I imagine that if the points are earned on QF then they bear the cost of that however if the flight is not on QF metal and where a JSA is not in place there would be a cost to QF? Or am I not understanding how it all works?

Well as I see it, Qantas have "trained" people how to book said ASA's and both the pax & Qantas have benefited from this "loyalty" generating product in the past.... Now the "programming" is broken so mass exodus of points from peoples accounts doing Marginal ASA's while they are still there.... This "fire sale" is people shifting attitudes of Qantas, short term getting value of their points while it lasts, gain some quick SC's as a parting shot and building a farewell status for the next 12 month period of travel.

Now not everyone will go to VA, as mentioned many times here before, VA don't have ASA's, but in this future Qantas seeks, there's one less reason to book Qantas.
