Just saw this article on a new book, "Confessions of a Qantas Flight Attendant' by Owen Beddall.
Looks like to be an entertaining read.

On one flight, one of the Gallagher brothers from the British band Oasis offered flight attendants £1000 ($AU1807) a piece to turn a blind eye to them smoking in the toilets. “What should I do? “ one of the attendants asked Owen, his senior. “Just get the money up front,” he replied.

Beddall also recalls the time Olympic hero Grant Hackett went "off his head" on sleeping pills. After a bad reaction to too many Stillnox he attempted to head to first from business class and pee inside the plane. “Restraining him was like attempting to hold down a racehorse”.

“I couldn’t believe the wealthy women who fly first class who’ve paid $20,000 for a first class ticket, but who steal the cutlery and the amenities, says Beddall. “If they’ve paid that much, all they have to do is bloody well ask.”

Beddall also says he was bribed by female flight attendants who wanted to work on the upper deck, which services the “coughpit” (they were known as TCMs or tech crew molls) and reveals where crews like to stopover so they can fill their little black bags with all kids and colours of pills – uppers, downers, such as sleeping tablets and ones to help them wake up.

That is strange. Even The Brisbane Times link is down. I wonder if it was potential legal action? The bit of the article at the end did deal with the former FA, his lover and his lover's wife!

So another salacious tell all book from someone who should be able to keep a confidence.

He was paid to perform a job and while that job no doubt had many fun parts he should be professional enough to not name people even if they are celebrities.

I do hope he realises he has now lost any personal and professional integrity he may have once had and that any future employer is now aware that he cannot keep a workplace confidence.

I am AMAZED this book is being published. Surely QF FAs sign confidentiality agreements (especially F staff!) to stop this very info coming out. QF don't want pax (esp celebrities) fearing their personal stories will be splashed across the media. This is huge reputational damage to QF- they should be seeking an urgent court injunction to stop the publication and seeking damages for the brand damage caused.

Nice read. I don't think anyone would be surprised by anything that could be written in the book. Are they?

Meh! if he sells enough books workplace confidence becomes irrelevant.....

I just finished a recent VS one of these which was good (Cabin Fever I think it was called) they're trashy kiss and tells essentially but are good escapism

I think it's a hoot! It was interesting enough to keep me reading, and I want to read more. It will be some fun to read on a future flight.

How much has he invaded privacy? I guess that depends on what else he says in his book. From what I read so far there was nothing too personal (the Katy Perry 'I'm making your breakfast' was not disclosing any dark secrets).

Looking forward to reading confessions of a former Qantas CEO, hopefully to be released within the next twelve months by AJ.

I've downloaded the book to my Ipad. Have got about 40 pages into it and its pretty lame in my opinion

Im about 3/4 of the way through - it isn't nearly as trashy as I expected, there is a lot of operational information about flight attendant's and their careers and QF ops.

The so called tid bits aren't nearly as juicey as expected - more than anything it tracks QFs fall from grace as the FA is:

-forced to join the london base 'or else'
-shunted MEL Domestic after years in long haul and seniority ignored so they end up working back in Y after years in F
-the closure of many QF long haul routes to favourite destinations
-the rise of the cheap gen Y crew who aren't looked upon favourably!

i think many on this board would be interested, this is a candid look behind the curtain that isn't just gossip but

Operational info etc etc can be obtained fairly easily. We need to remember the author will make good money from this book. It is 1 persons perspective of the industry.

Not quite sure of your point. Any such book would probably be written with a view to make money and by definition most "confessions" books are by definition an individuals perspective.

I guess, is this book fiction or non fiction

Saw an interview of him on TV. It was painful to watch. He is a liar.

Don't buy the book and ask your operational questions in the "chicken or beef" or "ask a pilot" threads.
