Ok something has gone wrong and I don't know what to do. My PC was connected to the internet and suddenly the access stopped. Checked everything with no success.

Hooked up the lap top using same cables and no changes to settings and all good.

But have no idea what's wrong with the PC. When I diagnose the connection it says "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding."

Oh and the wi fi also didn't work.

So please help and tell me what to do next.

Try giving your ISP a call, and get them to do a step-by-step troubleshoot of your problem to make sure all the settings are ok.

I'm no IT expert, but if other connections are working, wouldn't a DNS flush do the trick?

Here is a scam; Windows 10 upgrade. You sort of get tricked into uploading it.

The window pops up do you want to upgrade, if you close the window it uploads !

Alas, updating my faithful W7 to W10 may be the only way I will be able to upgrade my notebook to 4GB to 8gB Ram as it is now a 32bit OS. By upgrading W10(x32) then doing a clean W10(x64) over the top I will then have the 8GB I covet.

I finally upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when the only option I was given was the date for the upgrade to occur. Message said everything would be just the same. I now cannot find the calculator and the card games I used to relax with have changed to a completely different format which is much harder to read. There are a few other things which I also don't like.

Is there a "Go back to Windows 7" option?

You have 30 days to roll it back.
Go into the W10 upgrade page and save W10 as an ISO file onto an ext. drive so that you can then upgrade to it any time in the future that you wish.

Now you make me even more reticent to upgrade. Bugga.

I had to get a new home computer a couple of weeks ago as the old one didn't like the drink of coffee.Only come with Windows 10 now.I did upgrade a travel computer to 10 a year or so ago and hated it.Now having to get used to it and am slowly finding ways to do things.Still cant do everything I used to do using 7.

Actually, Windows 10 is fine. Some searching for things required when you start but you'll soon adapt, Much better than the windows 8 rubbish, more like Windows 7 version III. Some nice new methods of quickly finding programs and other stuff.

I'll stick with XP thanks (I have 6 computers running XP and all's well). My wife has 10 on her 2 computers and hates it (with good reason). Pity Microsoft decided to try and make it all things to all people (PC's, tablets, phones, etc).

No, they scammed you much earlier than that.

You (and many, many, many others) have paid good money for a program that contains thousands of errors/faults/mistakes - call them what you will.

These 'issues' (playing nice now) potentially expose you to losing your entire bank balances as well as running up your full credit limits. In addition you are exposed to the potential loss of all personal material stored on your computer (of whatever type - desktop, laptop, tablet, phone etc) through malicious intervention made possible by the sale of this product known to possess seemingly unlimited vulnerability.

Don't car companies that supply cars that don't really run as efficiently face billions in fines?

How many billion was M$ profit last year again.

Gee those donations were worth every penny weren't they M$?

Sorry OT, I have 2 PCs with XP. Would like W7 on one and thinking Ubuntu on the other.

A while back I read about a number of W10 security vulnerabilities involving sharing your data etc. I will look for the article and post it. Essentially MS automatically opt you in to these things n W10. You need to go through later and Opt Out.

When using MS consider that they are desperately trying to move everything to a "subscription model".

I still use Lotus for my simple minded word processor and spreadsheet (and sometimes wordpad).

And yes you can do it Apple's way (and no other) after paying Apple's price.

The first computer I assembled was in the early 1980s. Anyone remember CP/M?

As I can't even find the calculator at present, could you please point me in the right direction to roll back to Windows 7?

I'm not all that keen to save Windows 10. Maybe there will be an upgrade which users find friendly one day.

When do they stop supporting XP?

On my lap top with 10 I use classic shell and then load things I use often like the calculator, snipping tool down on the task bar.

Don't rember CP/M, but I didn't have a PC until the early nineties. The first operating system I had anything major to do with was S/370.
