complimentary gold - anniversary date?

Hey all,

I'm just reviewing the rules for the complementary gold as a platinum bonus reward.
It seems a little unclear how this works in regards to the anniversary periods of the QFF account.

From the Qantas T&C:

The Complimentary Gold Membership Year will be calculated as 12 months from the date of the nomination by the primary Platinum or Platinum One Member extended to the Frequent Flyer Membership expiry date of the Gold Member;

This suggests that the recipient receives 12 months + plus the remaining balance to the recipients anniversary date.
However reports elsewhere on this site suggests that what really happens is that the anniversary date of the recipient is modified to align with that of the gifter.

Is that correct? It's not stated in the T&C.

In practice it has been linked to the nominator's membership year anniversary but I suspect if the recipients FF anniversary is later than this it will extend to then. It is a bit unclear.

I think the intent is to give the longest period of the two membership anniversaries.

eg:

WP member (nominee) anniversary 31 Aug, Gold member(recipient): 31 July... gifted Gold should last till 31 Aug of the next membership year
However if Gold's anniversary is 31 Oct, then they'd get Gold till 31 Oct of the next membership year.

The people I have gifted Gold (and Plat as a P1) to have had, as far as I have known, earlier anniversaries than mine so have gotten my anniversary date for the gifted status - I've had no experience of the other scenario.

Just on a related matter. I gifted Gold to Mrs Tallfont last year. This year unless some unexpected international travel comes up before March 31st I will be about 60 status credits off getting the Platinum bonus reward. There was a good chance that travel would have occurred until this Coronavirus thing came up!

I am assuming that she will drop to Silver which she was before I gifted and not back to Bronze?

Well yes, but she will still have the full validity of her Gold as shown on her card regardless of your futue drop. So if, for example, she has Gold until March 31, 2021 and you drop to Gold yourself in April this year, her Gold will still hold since it's already been gifted and is treated as earned status.
