Hi everyone,

I know that VA has the complimentary alcohol policy for flights departing between 5-7pm Mon-Fri.

I am flying VA752 in a couple of weeks and just wanted to know is that still eligible for the complementary alcohol deal? It is scheduled to take off at 7pm on the dot, so if anyone has any experience with a 7pm departing domestic flight on VA would love to hear it.

Cheers

On a similar discussion we were booked on a 6.30pm flight which was delayed and took off at more like 7.30pm.

Asked for a wine and was told that will be $10 or whatever the cost was.

Pointed out THEIR flight delay was not of my making, and she stood firm. She said "Sir do you wish to PURCHASE a wine or not"

Noted her name down and fully meant to email it in on principle, but life is too short. We were both Plats in row 3, and guy next to us was too, and he too was pretty peeved at such nickel and diming.

What a pathetic joke! Why don't they just rebrand to tigerair and call it a day.

That’s pretty rough. Judging from this thread, the happy hour is factored into booking decisions. The promotion should be honoured regardless of the take off time. In fact, if it’s delayed, maybe it should be doubly so!

Just because people expect to get what is offered and are upset when they are rudely dismissed when they ask for it doesn't mean they factored the offer into their decision of when and who to fly with.

I'm sure anyone would agree that people are more upset in those situations than if there had been no offer in the first place.

I don't have it to hand, but I'm sure I've read the terms with this potential scenario in mind and found that it said "scheduled departure time" or similar, so I would expect it to be honoured even if delayed beyond 19:00.

The exact wording is "Complimentary tea, coffee, juice and water is available on all Virgin Australia flights, and if you’re scheduled to depart between 5 - 7pm Monday to Friday, we’ll also offer you a free beer, wine or soft drink when flying domestically":

I am sure it is not policy.

Pretty poor.

The KNX flight used to be scheduled to depart at about 1615 from memory but was quite often delayed till after 1700.

I used to politely point out when the wagon came down that seeing it was after five the plonk should be included

The response was always the same....”we are scheduled to leave prior to five so you have to pay” or words to this effect.

Seems they like it both ways.

Such a penny pinching joke of an airline. especially on this 3.5 hrs flight where tickets are regularly pushing 1k.

I was on a short flight from Canberra to Sydney and we were delayed by an hour. It wasn’t scheduled for the advertised happy hour, but when we boarded the pilot apologised and we all got the option of an alcoholic beverage in addition to the usual tea/juice/water. I’ve travelled on so many delayed flights in and out of Hobart but have never received a free beer for the delay. Is it a special Canberra thing?

From memory it’s just a half filled cup of what appears 100ml of drink. Wouldn’t be costing them too much compared to handing out small bottles to everyone.

It's been a while since I've flown between 5-7pm weeekdays. Do VA not even give you a whole small 187mL bottle of wine any more?

My experience earlier this month SYD-CBR was a half cup poured from a full size bottle likely retailing for closer to $5 rather than $10. Prior flights it had been a mini bottle.

The snack is just a waste of VA's (our) money
Sure is. Almost every time I fly it’s some variation on disgusting. I’ve stopped accepting it. I think they try to accommodate every possible dietary restriction and it ends up being awful for everyone.
