Complex Itinerary - Transit at Shanghai and Separate bookings

I have two somewhat separate questions, but both for the same trip with QR.

1. I am beginning the journey in Tokyo, and repositioning to Shanghai (PVG) on an unrelated airline (maybe Spring airlines), and then my onwards flight is on Qatar. What I'm wondering is, is it possible to do an airside transit including rechecking the luggage at that Shanghai airport, or will I need to exit customs and immigration? If so, do they have any electronic registration or anything I need to do, or is it straight visa on arrival and nothing to prepare?

2. I have 2 separate rewards bookings (through velocity), one for PVG -> DOH and one for DOH -> BCN. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get these to appear as one booking in the search. What is the best way to handle this situation regarding luggage? Can I get VirginAU to combine them somehow or more likely, can I ask Qatar people at Shanghai to label the bag to go to BCN? My transit at Doha is quite lengthy in any case, so it's not a catastrohpie if I can't, but would probably be more convenient if I could.

i'll leave some of the more knowledgeable people to answer question 2, but for question 1 - I believe you have to clear customs and immigration to recheck the bags. They have paper forms on arrival, but they also have a digital arrival card - just google "China Digital arrival card" and you can find the link. Alternatively you can fill it out on WeChat if you have it. It's quite simple (from what I remember).
PVG was a lot more quick than I expected when I was entering China - granted it was close to NYE and a night time arrival flight.
