HI there, I really don't know where to post this.
For the last couple of months I was delighted to see a use for my 400K Qantas points. Coming home from Europe in July 2020, I found a business class seat x 2 offered most days, from Rome to Sydney via Shanghai on China Easstern Airlines. In two combinations, MU788 + mu561 AND mu 788 + MU 735. This would be GREAT!
We are leaving from Rome. It would work perfectly.
prefer Leaving on a Thursday (23rd July 2020 not up yet so looking for options before it does.) Wed and Friday ok too.

AS July 2020 becomes available to book, I'm seeing completely different configurations of flights.
Ergh, don't want to travel for 37 hours....or have 4 stops, or whatever. I also REALLY want to travel business class all the way. That is the one thing that seems to be changing, combo economy/business class replacing some of the fully business class offerings.
So I have a few questions if someone doesn't mind answering them.

1. What is the likelihood that china eastern has completely changed their schedule, starting July 2020 (as opposed to June 2020) and that the available fully classic reward business class seats are only offered as econo/business in this different month?
2. is it ever possible that while no fully bus class seats are offered immediately, that they may become available in the future? or does that never happen.
3. We will be in Rome at this time. I was looking for as direct a flight to Sydney as possible. What other possible combinations could I look up? I don't mind stopping in TWO cities, eg Rome to Paris, Paris to Shanghai, Shanghai to Sydney, as long as the layovers aren't agonisingly long. I just don't know what the combinations are from Rome. Can anyone help with this?

Any tips on how to search this would be gratefully accepted.
Jenny

I am no expert, however I just logged into the QF site and searched Rome-Sydney. 14 Jul 20 was the latest I could select and these where the results for x2 Pax

I can't understand how you got that? I'm only a bronze member, perhaps that's why?
That's a good sign, but I am only able to get to 3rd July 2020. I wonder why?

@JennyMG tick the flexible with dates button, this will include all the fights that are in advance of QF publishing. Once you do this also check on the multi city via DOH and HKG to pick up QR or CX for other options. OW carrier rewards do not care if to are QF NB or WP1, in my experience it is open slather.

Edit - so there is no confusion MU is not part of OW but seems to be QF’s newest friend when it come to rewards.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I am (back down to) gold and also only select through to 3rd

OH my goodness. that WORKED!!! I can also now see 14th.
but Matt, you're getting all technical on me.

1. If it is in advance of QF publishing can I still book it?
2. can you think of other options other than doh and Hongkong? that I could try?
3. I'm guessing QR is Qatar and CX is cathay, but no idea who OW is, orNB or WP1. What are they?
...oh just worked out you mean one world. Why would it matter that MU is not part of one world?
4. Last, I'm not sure how to do the multicity. Do I put in rome to Sydney? or must I put in Rome to SOMEWHERE and then SOMEWHERE to sydney?

Answers as follows
1. Yes
2. I only suggested QR and CX as they are both OW and are both good carriers. I have not checked their schedules but these carriers service most of EU. There would be other OW options with the likes of BA and JL but these would have additional connections. There are other OW carriers out of the EU but it depends on how much effort you are willing to put in to look for flights.
3. NB is Bronze, WP1 is Platinum One, MU is a QF partner so reward bookings can be made using QF points, but cannot be used if you were looking for a mileage based redemption on the OW rules. EK is also QF partner and these may open up in the future, in about 20 days, also another excellent carrier.

All the best

Yes, OW is the OneWorld alliance. MU is not part of OneWorld but you can redeem seats using Qantas FF points. HOWEVER, you cannot include them in, say the Qantas OW RTW type points fare.

NB is 'code' here on AFF for 'Nobody bronze' status. 'SG' is 'Scum gold'; WP is 'Wanker Platinum' and WP! is 'Wanker Platinum 1' status.

From January, Druk air will fly Singapore-Dili. Not sure if that will qualify as a fifth freedom as it in partnership with Air Timor, but still an interesting one
