My qualification year ends 31 Jul 11.

Received a package from Qantas with my new card in it with the following word:
" Dear Wannabee,

Your flight activity this year shows that you may not re qualify for your Platinum status. Whilst we normally require members to reach the retain levels to keep their status, we'd like to recognise all the flying you have done with Qantas, Jetstar and oneworld alliance airlines since joining the program.

We're please to extend your Platinum membership now for a further 12 months in recognition for your support. Your new membership is valid until 31 Jul 2012"

That's all well and good, but I currently sit on 1420 SC. Does this mean that I have used up my one talked about comp? Or now that I have earnt it that will be taken into consideration for following years? Should I give them a call or will they have no idea what I am talking about?

Comps are secret QF business where none of us know the facts, only the experiences we have had, there has been anecdotal evidence that a comp thats not needed is not used! As far as I am concerned, QF keep a lifetime average of your SCs and this is what results in the odd comp, and by earning that status you are keeping that average up high so a comp might again be forthcoming anyway! I have no other way of explaining how I got a comp on 120SC for SG a few years back, two years previous to that my comp came through but was not needed!

Had the same thing happen to me. On the principle that comps are few and far between, rang them and made sure their records showed I earned it, not comped.

You can't be too careful. One day, I might need their generosity, so no sense using up a life unnecessarily.

Same thing happened to me (although slightly more complicated by a long-delayed mileage claim after the anniversary date). Rang up QF and was assured that they did indeed recognise I had earned the status fair and square.
