I am flying with an NB friend QF2 LHR-BKK then BKK-SYD a few days later and we have a lot of checked baggage and am wondering how QF calculate combined checked luggage. Are we allowed to pool our allowance together for it to be 46kg + 23kg? Or do they calculate them separately?

With a combined 69kg that might be fine, however, if it is calculated separately, there might be a problem... We would like to avoid the ridiculous additional baggage charges if possible.

I have never had a problem combining luggage allowances on QF when travelling with any Bronze members of my family.
AFAIK you will also both be able to check in at the J counters and receive J tags on the bags.

It's never been a problem when I have traveled.

I have also done it on deathstar and it wasn't a problem either
