Once again, after checking and comparing many TI options, the AFF Gold Member discount deal from Columbus Travel Insurance comes out well on top for my next family holiday.

Most of my holiday travel is using FF miles/points for flights and often a major portion of accommodation is from hotel loyalty programs, so I rarely qualify for any travel insurance cover from credit cards. And my international personal travel is generally less than once a year, so no point in taking out an annual policy. All my work travel is covered by corporate travel insurance policies.

So for an upcoming family holiday I set out to compare prices and cover from the usual suspects, applying whatever discount vouchers/promos I could find for each one. And as with every other time I have undertaken the same type of comparison, Columbus has come out well ahead in terms of lowest cost with adequate cover. In this case at least 15-20% cheaper than other options.

Thankfully I have only ever had to make one claim on a travel insurance policy, and it was with Columbus. The claim process was reasonably simple, all being managed on-line and via email. And after providing all the relevant information the claim was processed very quickly.

And as a Gold AFF member I was able to purchase Columbus TI with the AFF Gold Member discount for my adult daughter even when I was not traveling on the same trip and even though it had to be processed manually over the phone because she was 18yo and the on-line system would only accept 19 as minimum age. The phone agent had no hesitations applying the 20% AFF Gold Member discount for me. So this year I have saved more than the AFF Gold Member annual fee value just in Columbus Travel Insurance (2 policies, one for my upcoming holiday with Mrs NM and Mini, and one for adult daughter traveling alone).

Hi,

I just had a quick scan through the Policy Wording and cannot see where FF miles/points for flights are covered. See
https://travel.columbusdirect.com.au/pdfs/coz/PDS.pdf It does mention payments though, but not points?

So have I missed a clause or is there some additional advice that states that flight made by points are covered?

Thanks.

I normally use CC TI as it covers what I need covered. However I have redeemed J Flights for my 22 year old duaghter to go to the USA and Japan for 6 weeks and so need to buy a policy in this instance.

So I just wish to check that Columbus does cover for FF redemptions, but would like to see the wording to check that all is ok. Can anyone link me to the wording as I cannot seem to locate it in the Policy Document? Thank you.

Just had my first ever travel insurance claim, delayed departure by 19 hours and claimed $750 . Purchased Columbus yearly multi travel in Jan 2016 with the AFF gold discount. Received the claim form from them promptly following an email. Submitted the claim form on 14th April and received an email back on 17th April requesting one further document I had omitted. Claim approved on 18th April, received approval letter on 20th April and payment to bank account on 26 th April.
Very easy to deal with , prompt communication throughout. Could be happier with the service.
