A friend of mine has just moved to Cocos Keeling Island and I want to visit! I heard you can fly from Perth and/or Singapore and like to visit both those locations. Has anyone got any suggestions on points or dollar or RTW or any other good way to visit Cocos Island? Although I am in Devonport (Tassie), I'd happily fly from Melbourne for instance. HELP!

YOur basic options for getting to Cocos Keeling are from Perth on Virgin Blue. Virgin Blue also operate a service between Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling.

You can also get to Christmas Island from KUL on an MH operated service, but sold as Christmas Island Air. I think the SIN service has ceased operation.

Having said all that, the DJ flights are not cheap, and I am not sure that redemptions on points would come at a sensible price.

There are no cheap options to XCH or CCK from anywhere. Virgin's retail price is $465 each way from PER and it never appears to go on sale.
The KUL-XCH flights on Christmas Island Air are $545 each way for a shorter flight so they're no good either.

Ah, the beauty of subsidised, long and extremely thin lifeline routes.
I guess the best value is to fly DJ and earn some Velocity points, or redeem Velocity points for the flights if you have them.

At least you'll get free accommodation!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
