I just want to say that as a NB I thought I would never get an opportunity to use my points in any meaningful way. Some of the toasters in the Qantas store were starting to look appealing.

I have a trip tomorrow, which I fully intend on providing a Trip Report for, going to South America for 7 weeks holiday. (ADL>SYD>SCL>LIM>BOG all tomorrow)

I've never seen the inside of any lounge, being an infrequent flyer with most of my points from CC Spend. I did come close one time thanks to straitman though.

I have one booked leg in South America in Premium Economy.

I am excited because I had a crack at a classic upgrade award tonight and was instantly confirmed. 30,000 for 2 pax SYD>ADL

If someone could help me out with a couple of questions that would be much appreciated...

What happens to my baggage allowance for the upgraded leg? (The QF intinerary is for ADL>SYD>SCL>SYD>ADL)
Does the same thing happen to the international leg's baggage?
Do I get lounge access?
What points/SC do I earn? Business or Red E Deal

I'm already so excited for this flight and to see what life is like up the front of the plane! (well not the VERY front...)

Hi jfabian, and congrats on the upgrade. You'll get SCs and points for the fare glass you booked in, i.e. Red e-Deal. Since you're travelling in J on one leg you'll have access to the QP in ADL, pity there's no J lounge there.

Hi,

Sounds like an awesome trip. I'm terribly jealous :)

Others will no-doubt chime in to correct any inaccuracies I'm about to spout, but as far as I'm aware what will happen is this: Your baggage allowance for the Domestic Business leg (SYD->ADL) will be the domestic business allowance. Your International leg allowance will be unchanged and will be as per the original booking (Unless you apply for and get approved for an upgrade for that leg too). You will get Qantas domestic Business lounge access at Sydney if you have time between your International flight and your domestic connection. You earn the points and SC of the paid fare (ie. Red-e-deal).

Have a great trip!

Thanks Hvr.

So with the lounge access would it be before departure in syd on my inbound leg and only on that occasion. ie on the upgraded leg? or do I get it on all legs?

I am assuming that you are upgraded on tomorrow's ADL-SYD flight (as opposed to SYD-ADL)?

You will have lounge access in ADL as you are flying J.

Not sure about the baggage, but I would work on the international allowance.

You will receive SCs for the class you booked.

Have a great trip, especially with the good start you are off to.

Thanks Hvr.

Only the Airport prior to the Business flight unfortunately. Still, a nice way to ease out of the holiday :)

Er Yeah, and as other have stated, if you meant ADL-> SYD, then you only get access at ADL.

I was upgraded on the inbound leg, not tomorrows ADL>SYD. It was the only leg that was eligible for the upgrade.

Although, I managed to snag the exit row tomorrow morning by checking my seat allocations at t-80.

So many handy tips thanks to this forum!

Ah got it. Surprising that you were notified of the upgrade so far out.

In that case, as others have said, you will have SYD domestic J lounge access on your return.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Isn't instant upgrade standard for domestic flights provided an award seat is available at the time of request?

It is extremely difficult to get a classic business class award for the SYD-SCL sector, you can try every day for the next 360 and have no luck. Once upon a time, I used my WP status to ask Qantas to release one award seat - that was the only way to get that seat. Anyway, enjoy the trip, sounds like a blast!

At least on the return flight from SCL, once you arrive at SYD T3 off the transfer bus you'll be able to access the J Lounge and have a shower and breakfast prior to your SYD/ADL flight so have a change of clothes in your hand luggage. Hope you've got sufficient time in SYD to be able to enjoy this on the return.

I flew BCN/xDXB/xSYD/BNE in May on a Classic Award in whY and having lounge access for a shower and a decent breakfast contributes to beating jet lag - in fact I wouldn't say I even got any, more the temptation to stay up past midnight once back in Aust.
