Classic Reward Schedule Change - Offered Alternatives

How's this for service from Japan Airlines on their ticket, had a return USA ticket booked with them, PER>HKG with Cathay, HKG>HND>ORD on Japan Airlines and then back JFK>HND>HKG with Japan Airlines and Cathay back to Perth....

Minor flight change on the way... Around 5 minutes on the Cathay leg, that opened up a free change calendar for +/- 7 days from departure and basically had every one world option under the sun to route to Chicago. Scrolled down to find 2 x Qatar Q-suite flights, didn't think it would work but gave it a go, got a loading screen with nothing happening but my phone buzzed with a confirmation email. Happy days, saved 1 flight, about 5 hours and upgraded to Q-Suites.

Funnily enough, the same thing happened about 2 weeks later with the return flights, same process and low and behold 2 x Qsuite flights saving 6 hours.

So I've saved 2 flights and over 10 hours while upgrading products to Qsuite, only downside is I miss the new Japan Airlines A350-1000 from JFK>HND as I really would love to have tried it out and also love the Japanese service and food

I had a similar experience, also Perth to USA via HKG, HND and a domestic transit in USA. My JAL booking direct through JAL in J (cash booking) had a several hours change which meant i'd miss a connection on the same PNR. So the website offered me BA, QR and many other options. All much better than my Cathay/JAL multi-flight routing. But trying to change online errored out when i wanted the Q-suites flights from USA to Perth via Doha. Called up JAL, they said theres no seats available (said the same about the BA option), and unfortunately put me on a different JAL/Cathay mix. Was very briefly looking forward to having all 4 of us in qsuites.

Disappointing, but was surprised it was even an option in the first place.

That was about a month or two ago. A couple of weeks ago i got a minor change, and the MMB page wouldnt load at all anymore. Had to call and they accepted the new flights (two flights had ~10min changes).

Fingers crossed for more changes in the future, but hope i can actually accept the nicer routings.

Unfortunately the only recent changes were one of my JAL and one of my Cathay flights were downgraded to 'regional' business class from lie flat :/
