Hi all

Interested in your thoughts and experiences on this one. Looking at Classic Award seats around May next year and am completely flexible with destination - flights out of Aus (and return and departing port doesn't appear to change anything) to either LHR, LAX or SCL all seem to have very limited, which is almost an understatement, J classic award seats available - in many instances the only J seats are on non Q metal (which isn't an issue). Have I left it too late for a May booking and expecting to have access to J seats using Classic Awards?

Should be hitting WP in the next week or two (for the first time and it's taken a lot of Y miles!!!) - so maybe I'd be better of paying for my ticket and hoping to secure a points upgrade...

Looking forward to your views.

Cheers

Long haul I book my award seats as early as possible, there just aren't that many seats available. For instance I booked my August next year trip in September. As a WP you should see more availability and IIRC you can also request a classic award seat to be opened up.

Cheers Mille - perhaps I'll wait a couple of weeks for the tick over to WP. Thanks.

We book last minute & mostly on CX or BA (only because they're the only ones that pop up) sometimes QF.

Picking up CX to HKG is pretty easy within a month of flying.....if you want you can then jump onboard another CX classic award & go anywhere in their network.

Only works if you can live with last minute bookings.

Been railing abut the abysmal availability on QF classic awards for ever and a day.
Even WP wont find much more. I book 355 days out and then am lucky to get 2 seats in J on any day other than a Tuesday and certainly NEVER on a Friday Sat Sun.

That's the problem with living here - domestic travel is stitched up by QF who give nothing back on international rewards

There are a few more variables than that. I guess it all depends on where you want to go and when.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hence why the FF program continues to be a great earner for them.

I guess we all know the rules. Even if we don't like them we still have to play by them.
