Classic and Classic Plus domestic availability quirk

Has anyone else noticed this quirk with Classic and Classic Plus awards (domestically at least)?

If classic awards are available on a flight, then classic plus awards (even in other booking classes) on that same flight are not 🤔. Below is just an example but it seems fairly common across routes and destinations: if there is Y (or J!) classic awards available, then classic plus won't be, even if the the fare classes that would typically signal classic plus availability (eg. D or I for Business) are present confirmed by EF.

About this one, Search CNS/CGK, Classic Plus Reward option only for 47,800 each pax.
Search Multi City CNS/SYD and then SYD/CGK, Classic Reward option for 25,200 each pax.
Extra 22,600 if you didn't do your homework.

I've seen similar... add a connection or tag flight and you can even sometimes get it to give you J classic rewards that don't show for a single itinerary.

I guess this is how they can argue that Classic+ hasn't removed Classic.
I thought that was how it was supposed to work? Basically classic plus is offered when regular award seats are sold out.

Is that the model?
The odd bit seems to be that Classic+ appears to be offered when all award seats are sold out (Y and J), not just a single class.

So if Y Classic are sold out, you don't get Classic+ if there is still J Classic.

** At least domestically and at least for what I've seen. They don't seem to mix.

FWIW, I was looking at MEL-SYD on 19 September (when I have a Classic Reward in Y booked) and noticed that on some flights, you can get a J Classic for 18,400 points or a Y Classic Plus on the same flight for 19,700 points. Make of that what you will...

Yes I've seen the same thing for MEL/ADL.
