Have a flight BNE-MEL in a few weeks time. Was hoping to use my QFF points to upgrade but couldn't as HO booked a discount fare. What I am asking the forum is for any recommendation for a seat on the 737-400 and maybe now with online seating , I maybe lucky enough to grab a little extra comfort.
Thanks.

Been a while since I've been in one of these planes...

From memory, they use convertible Business class seats for the first 5 rows.

The first 3 rows are normally in Business formation (2x2 with a smallish "seat" in between the two business seats), with the next 2 rows in Economy - but still Business type seats and legroom. I believe these 2 economy rows are three seats wide - but can't remember.

The 6th row also probably has good legroom, but unsure.

Here's a photo of what to expect:

Row 12 is the best followed by row 11 since they are the exit rows

Row six on Qantas 734's has about the same pitch as seats futher back.

Boiling the proffered advice down; for best pitch do the following:

- on OLCI, look for seats Row 5 and forward.

- When you arrive at the airport, take the time to recheck and ask for an exit row seat.
