I've had a Citibank Classic for years. It's the last non-Platinum card that's in my wallet.
The thought of upgrading to Platinum had crossed my mind, but I never got around to it (and the annual fee is more than double).
I'm glad I didn't now. I just checked my mailbox, and inside was a new Platinum card as a complimentary upgrade, with no change to my annual fee. Supplementary cards are also $15/pa vs $90/pa at "rack rates".
So, if you're on Classic (or Gold?) and thinking of upgrading then I'd suggest waiting
