Hi,
First post so be kind to me.

I've just booked my Circle Pacific 22K with Qantas with the routing being
Melbourne-LA-San Fan-Vancouver-Tokyo-Melbourne

What a bargin $7039 in Business and taking two kids in Economy

What do you suggest is the best way of using FF points to get the kids upgraded for the MEL-LAX leg?

Should I request the upgrade early (I am Gold FF) or wait until later?
Am I dreaming? Are these upgrade never available?

Also would I be able to add in Osaka on the way back as an overnight stop?

Thanks

Welcome to FF.

You need to request the upgrade as soon as they open [90 days] so as you are the first in line as a Gold, then only chaiman and WP are ahead of you. Depending on the day of the week you are flying will help your chances. You don't say when u are flying ?
