Family did not organise themselves so canned my plans to head back to NZ for Xmas. Friend is now coming over from NZ for a week - which reminds me I need to organise NYE plans - so will play tourist in own home town.

Seriously considered a week in a resort in Danang!

Gearing up for 3 weeks in the US in March.

heading off to Belgium mid Dec to spend xmas with the missus family, with a quick weekend in Paris as well. Back to Oz just in time to see the new year.

Adelaide for Xmas with family then Boxing Day its off to Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

SYD-MEL-LAX-DEN-LGA return 4 weeks

1P, 2U and 1J SYD-LAX via MEL with QF changing initial reservation giving us a layover of 1hr in MEL.

LAX-DEN return via separate revenue PNR on AA.

Another family member travelling separately VA on Z fare SYD-LAX return and revenue DL LAX-SLC-DEN return

final destination Ski resorts of Colorado, NYC

Car hire Avis Chevy Suburban 4wd. We have total luggage allowance of 16 pieces checked and 10 pieces carryon total 582kg. With AUD/USD increasingly unfavourable, I sspect that we will not reach luggage allowance.

Accomodation via VRBO

Then revenue DEN-LGA return for 3 days at christmas time. 800 pooled VA SC at rate of US$3.2 /SC.
Some broadway shows
Use VA comp HHonours diamond for free wifi before it expires

Back to ski resorts of Colorado and VRBO

Then

DEN-LAX AA revenue

LAX-MEL-SYD 1P and 1J
LAX-SYD 2P

Hoping QF94 will divert to SYD due to fog and we can terminate in SYD without going via MEL and therefore QF will arrange luggage to go through Q and C and then delivery to my house. (Has happened before)

I will be in Sydney, with family for Christmas and then I'm heading off to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and Falkland Islands for 2 and a half weeks. I'm not looking forward to the 2 days getting to my embarkation point, but the rest should be amazing. Can't wait!

Are you going on a cruise ? Which boat ???

Yes, Polar Pioneer. Ushuaia - Antarctica (hopefully stopping off at a few islands on the way) - South Georgia - Falkland Is. Unfortunately it's just a few hours in Stanley and then fly from there to Santiago and home. It's a very small, expedition-style ship, but I'm not going for the accommodation, so that won't be a problem.

I did that trip back in 2012 with Quark Expeditions, it was mindblowing. You will have such an amazing time. Totally jealous!

Thanks Dr A. In Feb this year I went to the Ross Sea region and that was a real experience - visiting the huts of Shackleton and Scott, the animals and visiting the US and NZ bases. Now I'm looking forward to seeing how different it is at the peninsular.

In SYD for Xmas Day with the family and still not decided where to go between Xmas & NY ...PER is a possibility if the weather forecast for SYD is looking average.

Still trying to piece together a trip to DPS (we've never been) between Christmas/NYE Even considering redeeming QF points for Y if I can find availability!

For the first time in 10 years, I'm actually staying at home and having Christmas in Sydney! I'm quite looking forward to it. No flight plans until mid-January. ;)

Managed to snare some promo flights to EU with AY in J via BKK with QF. With a recent status match to HH Gold I've just booked a series of rooms across HEL, BUD, VIE, MUC, FRA etc with a winter sale on simultaneously. All going to plan a TR will appear as per previous years. Who doesn't like a frosty Christmas ho ho ho.

dinner at the Jumeirah Beach resort overlooking the Burj

Definitely concur with that - on the verandah of the restaurant separate from the main hotel with the lawn in front is the one to go to for that experience.

Out of PER to SYD and straight on to YVR on 21 Dec. Two nights in Vancouver, then two days driving to arrive at Fairmont Lake Louise on Xmas Eve for four nights. On to YYC on 28 Dec, drop rental car and fly back to YVR and back to SYD for NYE cracker night with Cove and Mrs Cove, then SYD-PER on 1 Jan.

All triggered by PJM talking for years about wanting a white xmas and QF now flying SYD-YVR.

I think the first week in January I'm going to drive Sydney to the Adelaide Hills via the Murray River and back via Broken Hill. Need a road trip rather than another plane one. :D

Matt

Gaaaah. We've done this drive too many times to count. Are you taking your time? We do it in two days each way, and have given up on the Broken Hill road, sticking to the Hay Plain both ways these days.

With a two year old and a 4 month old, we are staying home for Christmas, with a quick visit to MEL planned to meet our new niece, a visit to TSV in Feb and HNL in May.

Due to a quirk of my roster, instead of working I am able to sneak to ADL late on the 23rd and back early 26th. And then back to work.

Please spare a thought for those emergency service workers who are not at home with their families Christmas day. And stay safe out there. :)

Could be. It was a while ago, but my recollection was an Italian-style restaurant with a lawn in front. Maybe my memory is playing tricks (wouldn't be the first time...).

Anyway, I do know that I sat outside in the warmth and watched the light show on the Burj while supping - and very pleasant it was.
