re: Christmas Drinks & Train Crawl Sydney to Canberra [Sat. 14 December]

The finance ministers have finally cleared the bill of acquisition. Colour me platinum!

Accommodation is yet to be booked but it looks like it'll be the Novotel, unless something dirt cheap tempts me...
Flights are booked and I'll be on QF562 to SYD, would've joined the Cat207s but when there's a jet available :D (besides it gives me a nice excuse for a lazy Sunday sleep in)

re: Christmas Drinks & Train Crawl Sydney to Canberra [Sat. 14 December]

FYI - My plans have since changed and I am required in ADL Friday 13. Therefore my flight has changed to VA401 ADL-SYD 14/12/13 arriving 8:25 in SYD (so many fees!!!!! thanks saver lite!!!!)

Re: Christmas Drinks, 1st or 2nd Saturday in December

Put me down as a Gold, bordering towards Plat. I'll be at the Hyatt too if I come.

The last trip out to Thirlmere was a blast, so am definitely keen to relive it.

I'm happy to lean on the bar (and if I drink enough Gin, that won't be a problem :p)

I'm in the Accor property at capital hill, can't remember the name of it. I was tempted by the Brassy. But went for the cheapest option.

I'm on that flight, don't take 3E unless you want trouble. ;)

Like I can get row 3! Ha! I'll be cabing from the mercure very early with a slight hangover from Friday nights activities. You'll prob see me in the lounge trying to keep down a piece of Vegemite toast.

re: Christmas Drinks & Train Crawl Sydney to Canberra [Sat. 14 December]

Oh forgot to mention, providing I "lock it in eddie", i'll be in SYD the evening before if anyone's around for a quiet drink (and I mean quiet, as I don't do early mornings very well).

Do you mean City Hill? Cause I don't think there's an Accor property near Capital Hill.

OK. Flights booked. I'm on the QF flight back from CBR with penegal and am heading up to SYD on the Friday evening.

Staying at the Hyatt on Saturday, and no idea about SYD on the Friday at this stage.

 Rydges Capital Hill. No wonder I couldn't remember the name of the Accor group hotel, not being Accor and all.

But no I didn't mean city hill. ;)

re: Christmas Drinks & Train Crawl Sydney to Canberra [Sat. 14 December]

I wasn't exactly sure from post #1 what the plan is?

Do ppl fly to SYD Fri 13 Dec overnight & the traIn crawl is Sat 14 Dec SYD/CBR then an overnight in CBR before flying home on Sunday?

Or is there another train sector ex CBR on Sat 14 Dec to a once yearly random country destination?

What are the booking arrangements for the rail? Via AFF or direct on a website?

Sorry but a bit tired right now to trawl thru the whole thread.

  1. Fly to SYD (most people seem to be flying in early that morning, but you can do so the night before)
  2. Take the train to CBR (it's a private carriage so it's organised through AFF)
  3. Fly home (probably the next day as we'll arrive in CBR quite late)

Please count myself and +1 as Platinum.
We've finally sorted out when our staff Christmas parties are and can squeeze in the trip :). What luck!
I'll be using points to stay at the Crowne Plaza Canberra.

Now to sort out flights CBR-SYD. And wouldn't you know it - the sale fares are gone :(.

Just wondering if there is a 2a, which would include a dinner venue in CBR as I need to be in CBR the day of the train ride but may be able to make a dinner?

I'm not the organiser, was just summing it up. But there may be an after party. I think the train gets to CBR about 20:00.

Ok thanks, maybe people will be pretty tired after a long day.

I think the majority of us are staying at the crowne plaza or Novotel, we could have something close by to one of these?
