That would depend on when you are looking to travel but generally book as early as possible if you are hoping to get the best deal.

It is at this time of the year that airlines are releasing early bird specials for travel early in 2012. Some people like to wait until the last moment trying to get last minute specials but to use this stratgey then also be prepared to spend more than you would have booking early as airfares increase and no specials to be found.
 
Many thanks for your good advice, I'd rather not wait until the last moment, but just didn't want to get caught by paying too much either!
